The present invention relates to a plant disease control agent containing a compound represented by the following formula (1) or salt thereof as an active ingredient (in the formula, Rand Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or methyl group but excepting cases where Rand Rare the same), a plant disease controlling method applying the plant disease control agent on plants suffering from diseases, and a novel compound represented by formula (1) or salt thereof.

The present invention relates to thesp. strains AT-332 (NITE BP-1095) and AT-79 (NITE BP-1094) isolated from nature; and a plant disease control agent, a nematode control agent and a plant growth promoter containing the strains as active bacteria. Thesp. strains AT-332 and AT-79 strain are effective in controlling both a wide range of various plant diseases and nematode-damage and capable of promoting the growth of useful plants, due to a culture containing a secondary metabolite of the strains or cultivated and isolated live bacteria of the strains being introduced to a plant body or to the culture soil.

The present invention relates to a microbial pesticide composition, which is obtained by a method including the steps of: adjusting a pH of a culture solution of thesp. bacterium to from 3.0 to 5.0 (pH adjustment step); mixing the culture solution with the calcium chloride and/or the magnesium sulfate (mixing step); and lyophilizing or spray-drying the culture solution (drying step). In the microbial pesticide composition, even if it is stored for a long period of time at room temperature, the active ingredient remains stable and a sufficient preventive effect against plant disease can be maintained.

The present invention relates to a preservative for preserving wood comprising 5-methyl-2-trifluoromethylfuran-3-carboxylic acid anilide derivative represented by the following formula,  wherein R represents an iropropyl group or an isopropoxy group as an active ingredient. A method for preparing dimethylolcarboxylic acid derivatives represented by general formula (1) ##STR1## (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, an amino group, an alkyl group, or an alkyl group having a hydroxyl group) to react with a culture broth, cells or a processed cell product of a microorganism belonging to the genus Rhodococcus or Agrobacterium having an ability to oxidize a methylol group of the tris(hydroxymethyl) derivative represented by general formula (2) ##STR2## wherein R has the same meaning as defined above. According to this invention, dimethylolcarboxylic acid derivatives can be produced efficiently under mild conditions by using microorganisms belonging to the genus Rhodococcus or Agrobacterium and having an ability to oxidize tris(hydroxy-methyl) derivatives to produce dimethylolcarboxylic acid derivatives.

A microorganism belonging to the genus Pseudomonas; an alkaline lipase produced by the microorganism or its mutants; a method of producing the alkaline lipase; and detergents containing the alkaline lipase as an aid, the alkaline lipase having (1) an operative pH of from 4 to 11.5, and an optimum pH of from 7.0 to 9.5, as measured using triolein emulsion as a substrate; (2) an operative temperature of from 10.degree. to 80.degree. C., and an optimum temperature of from 55.degree. to 65.degree. C., as measured using triolein emulsion as a substrate; (3) a molecular weight of 28,000 .+-.2,000 as measured by electrophoresis using SDS polyacrylamide; (4) isoelectric point of 4.5 .+-.1.5 as measured by isoelectric focusing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis; and (5) an inhibition of lipase activity by a detergent component of not higher than 50% as measured using sodium linear-alkylbenzenesulfonate as said detergent component. The alkaline lipase has an improved stability against detergent components such as a surfactant and a protease, and can be blended with a detergent together with a protease. The alkaline lipase is less susceptible to inhibition of lipase activity by a detergent component and can increase washing power of detergents.
