In an intensifying screen composed of a support, a fluorescent layer disposed on the support and a protective layer disposed on the fluorescent layer, the fluorescent layer is composed of one or more phosphors selected from the group consisting of a terbium activated rare earth oxysulfide phosphor, a divalent europium activated alkali earth metal fluorohalide phosphor and a silver activated sulfide phosphor, and the protective layer is a light absorption layer which absorbs a part of light emitted by the fluorescent layer.

An intensifying screen having high physical durability and chemical resistance in which a curable resin is used as a resinous binder of a radioluminescent phosphor can easily be manufactured by employing an ultraviolet radiation-curable resin composition as the resinous binder. A dispersion comprising the ultraviolet radiation-curable resin composition and the radioluminescent phosphor dispersed in the composition is applied to the surface of a support to form a coating on the support, and the coating is cured by exposure to ultraviolet radiation to form a fluorescent layer on the support.

Process for manufacturing a radiographic intensifying screen

A radiographic intensifying screen having high radiographic image quality is composed of a support and a fluorescent layer formed on the support. The fluorescent layer contains a pigment coated phosphor in which pigment particles adhere to the surface of the phosphor and partly absorb the light emitted by the phosphor.

A radiographic intensifying screen having improved response function in the low spatial frequency region and high sharpness comprising a support and a fluorescent layer formed on the support, said fluorescent layer having dispersed therein fluorescent substance grains and having a grain size distribution of the fluorescent substance grains such that the grain size becomes smaller gradually from the front surface of the fluorescent layer to the back surface of the layer.
