A silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material for making a color proof and a method for making the color proof using the light-sensitive material. Halftone color proofs having a similar color tone of small dots and large dots can be obtained by the light-sensitive material and the method using it. The silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material comprises a yellow image forming light-sensitive layers, a magenta image foming light-sensitive layer and a cyan image forming light-sensitive layer which are different from each other in spectral sensitivity, and the magenta image forming layer contains a magenta coupler and an yellow coupler. The color proof is prepared by a method comprising steps of sequentially exposing the above-mentioned silver halide color photographic material to each of light having different spectral distribution through each of a plurality of black-and-white halftone images prepared by color separation of a color original, respectively, and developing the silver halide color photographic material with a color developer.

A method for making a color proof in a photo-mechanical process. The method comprises a step for exposing a silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material to light through a black-and-white halftone dot image, and a step for developing said silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material with a color developer. The photographic material is comprised of at least three silver halide emulsion layers which are different from each other in spectral sensitivity thereof, and at least one of these silver halide emulsion layers contains a specific yellow coupler and the color developer contains a specific color developing agent. A halftone color image having a color tone similar to that of image printed with printing inks can be obtained by the simplified process.

A direct positive type silver halide color photographic material and an image forming method are disclosed. A direct positive silver halide photographic material with an internal latent image-type silver halide emulsion layer that provides a direct positive image by a fogging treatment (for example, an overall exposure, or surface developing treatment in the presence of a fogging agent) after imagewise exposure. The silver halide particles which form the emulsion layer consist essentially of a core portion made of silver halide and having been chemically sensitized or doped with metal ions. There are provided a plural number of shell portions made of silver halide containing silver chloride. The chloride content of an inner shell adjacent to the outmost shell of the particles has a smaller amount of chloride content than that of the outermost shell. A method for obtaining direct positive images wherein a photographic material having a support and at least two silver halide emulsion layers coated thereon, each layer having a different spectral sensitivity, said emulsions being of the internal latent image type and containing unfogged silver halide crystals, is imagewise exposed and then subjected to an overall area exposure prior to or during the development thereof to form the image. The overall area exposure is such that the photographic intensity ratios between various layers are not more than 6 and the intensity of such overall exposure has a value between light intensities which give 0.8 times the maximum image density of the particular emulsion layer and 10 times that light intensity value. The photographic intensity ratio is the ratio between photographic intensities of two emulsion layers and the photographic intensity is the reciprocal of the intensity value that corresponds to an image density which is 50% of the maximum when an imagewise-unexposed internal latent type image silver halide emulsion layer is subjected to light-intensity scale exposure and the density of the image formed is measured with a light which corresponds to the absorption maximum of the image.
