A control apparatus for a shift range changeover device determines temporary abnormality, when a detection output of a rotation position of a motor continues to be abnormal for a first abnormality determination period. The control apparatus further determines persistent abnormality and performs predetermined failsafe processing, when the detection output further continues to be abnormal for a second abnormality period following the first abnormality period. If the temporary abnormality is determined within a feedback control permission period, motor feedback control is prohibited to control the shift range to the neutral range. If the temporary abnormality is determined after the feedback control permission period, the same control operation as before the temporary abnormality is performed.

A control apparatus for a shift-position changing mechanism that changes the shift positions of an automatic transmission mounted in a vehicle using a rotational force of an actuator based on a signal corresponding to the state of an operation member, including: a mechanism that generates a rotational force for moving the actuator toward a rotation stop positional-range corresponding to the shift position, based on a rotation stop position of the actuator; a detection unit that detects a rotation amount of the actuator; a control unit that controls the actuator based on the signal and the detected rotation amount; and a learning unit that learns the rotation stop positional-range corresponding to the shift position, based on an amount by which the actuator has been rotated since a control over the actuator executed by the control unit is stopped.

A variable valve mechanism performs a valve lift switching operation for an intake valve. ECU defines valve lift switching characteristics corresponding to the engine operating region and executes the valve lift switching operation based on the switching characteristics. ECU calculates a parameter fluctuation amount of an engine occurring in response to the valve lift switching operation, and corrects the valve lift switching characteristics when the calculated parameter fluctuation amount exceeds a predetermined judgment value.
