A plasma display panel has a front plate, and a rear plate arranged so as to be opposed to the front plate. The front plate has a display electrode, a dielectric layer to cover the display electrode, and a protective layer to cover the dielectric layer. The protective layer has a luminescence peak in a wavelength ranging from not less than 350 nm to not more than 550 nm under irradiation of light having a wavelength of 146 nm. In addition, the protective layer has a luminescence peak in a wavelength ranging from not less than 350 nm to not more than 550 nm under irradiation of light having a wavelength of 173 nm. A ratio A/B between a peak intensity of luminescence under the light having the wavelength of 146 nm and a peak intensity of luminescence under the light having the wavelength of 173 nm falls within a range from more than 3.0 to not more than 7.0.

The present invention relates to a plasma display device and to a method of producing a phosphor to be used for the device, that prevents the phosphor layer from deteriorating, and improves the luminance, life, and reliability, of a plasma display panel (PDP). The plasma display device is equipped with a plasma display panel in which a plurality of discharge cells are arranged, phosphor layers (R,G,B) in color corresponding to each discharge cell are disposed, and phosphor layers (R,G,B) are excited by ultraviolet light to emit light. Green phosphor layer (G) has a green phosphor including ZnSiO:Mn, the element ratio of zinc (Zn) to silicon (Si) at the proximity of its surface is, which is the stoichiometric ratio, and the layer is positively charged or zero-charged.

Plasma display device with green emitting phosphor that becomes positively charged

The present invention relates to a plasma display device and to a method of producing a phosphor to be used for the device, that prevents the phosphor layer from deteriorating, and improves the luminance, life, and reliability, of the PDP. The plasma display device is equipped with a plasma display panel in which a plurality of discharge cells are arranged, phosphor layers (R,G,B) in color corresponding to each discharge cell are allocated, and phosphor layers (R,G,B) are excited by ultraviolet light to emit light. Green phosphor layer (G) has a green phosphor including ZnSiO:Mn, the element ratio of zinc (Zn) to silicon (Si) is 2/1 to 2.09/1 at least at the proximity of the surface, and the layer is positively charged or zero-charged.

A plasma display panel capable of realizing improvement in the characteristics thereof, such as lower discharge voltage, more stable discharge, higher luminance, higher efficiency, and longer life. During a step of sealing the periphery of substrates or before this sealing step, impurity gas other then inert gas is adsorbed by phosphor layers. The impurity gas is released into discharge gas and the impurity is added to the discharge gas in a controlled manner while the panel is lit. This method can realize improvement in characteristics, such as lower discharge voltage, higher luminance, higher efficiency, and longer life.
