The shock absorber having a piston reciprocatingly disposed in a cylinder and sized small enough to permit a compact construction. The piston defines therein a vortex chamber with a maximum radius. The vortex chamber communicates with fluid chambers defined in the shock absorber via vortex passages formed in the piston. The vortex passage extends in the ceiling or bottom of the piston and tangentially opens at the upper and lower plane periphery of the vortex chamber. By providing the vortex passages in the above-mentioned manner, the radius of the vortex chamber can be maximized in relation to the radius of the piston thus reducing the size of the piston and, in turn the shock absorber.

A seat belt system includes a control arm with one end pivoted to an upper sash of a door and with the other end portion mounted to a roof side of a vehicle body for slidable movement. A seat belt extends from an anchor mounted to the roof side to a retractor mounted to the roof of the vehicle body adjacent the inboard side of a seat. A portion of the seat belt passes through the other end portion of the control arm. A spring is mounted so that when the door is closed, the other end portion of the control arm is urged to displace rearwardly till the control arm extends along the roof side to allow the seat belt to fasten around a passenger on the seat. As the door is opened, opening movement of the door will pull the one end of the control arm outwardly of the vehicle body, thus displacing the other end portion forwardly to extend the seat belt forwardly of the passenger for easy ingress or egress.

Projections made of a different and less abrasion resistant kind of rubber to that constituting the exterior of the tire are arranged to contact the road during low pressure conditions, whereby the amount of rubber worn off indicates the amount of fatigue accumulated and degree of internal damage done by running the tire at that pressure.

A hydraulic braking system of the split type including a fluid pressure control device which is adapted to reduce or stop the rate of increase of an output fluid pressure to wheel cylinders when a certain critical level is reached by an input fluid pressure delivered from a master cylinder, wherein the rates of increase of such critical level and the output fluid pressure if higher than the critical level are lowered when one of the split hydraulic circuits of the braking system fails or, if the rate of increase of the output fluid pressure higher than the critical level, only the critical level of the pressure is lowered.
