A head mounted display includes a lens disposed at a position facing a user's cornea; a plurality of infrared light sources disposed in a periphery of the lens that emit infrared light toward the user's cornea; a hot mirror that reflects the infrared light; a camera that captures an image projected into the hot mirror; an output unit that outputs an image captured by the camera to an eyesight direction detection unit that detects an eyesight direction of the user; and a housing, wherein when the periphery of the lens is divided into four regions: a first corresponding to the outer corner side of the eye, a second corresponding to the inner corner side, a third corresponding to the top side of the head, and a fourth corresponding to the jaw side, the plurality of infrared light sources are disposed in any of the first region and the second region.

Head mounted display

A head mounted display that is mounted on the head of a user and used includes an irradiation unit that irradiates the eyes of the user with invisible light, a monitor that displays an image for the user to view wearing a glass for display that transmits visible light and reflects invisible light, an imaging device capable of capturing an image formed by the invisible light, and an output unit that outputs an image captured by the imaging device as an image for gaze detection, and the imaging device images the eyes of the user using the invisible light radiated from the irradiation unit, reflected by the eyes of the user, and reflected by the glass for display.

Head mounted display and gaze detection system

Appropriate reduction of transferred data volume is used to deliver interruption-free video to a user, minimizing viewing discomfort. A head-mounted display secured to the head of a user and a video generating device that generates a video for presentation to the user by the head-mounted display are combined in a video system. In the head-mounted display, a presentation unit presents the video to the user, an imaging unit captures an image of the user's eye, the first communication unit sends the captured image to the video generating device, and receives the video from the video generating device. In the video generating device, a second communication unit receives captured images from the head-mounted display and sends a video to the head-mounted-display, a gaze point acquisition unit acquires, based on the captured images, the gaze point of the user in the video, a calculation unit defines a designated region based on the acquired gaze point, and generates the video, wherein the data volume per unit pixel count used for the exterior of the designated region is reduced compared to the data volume used for the interior of the designated region.

A gaze detection system includes a head mounted display and a gaze detection device detecting the gaze of the user. The head mounted display illuminate users eyes with infrared light, displays three-dimensional image comprising a plurality of layers in the depth direction and captures an image of user's eye illuminated by the infrared light. The gaze detection device detects the user's right eye's gaze direction (vector) and left eye's gaze direction (vector) with use of the captured images. The gaze detection device identifies the layer that the user is gazing at by selecting the layer having the shortest distance between the intersection points of the right eye gaze vector and the left eye gaze vector with each layer as a gaze point in the depth direction.

A head mounted display is used in a state of being mounted on a user's head and includes a convex lens disposed at a position facing the user's cornea when the head mounted display is mounted. An infrared light source emits infrared light toward the convex lens. A camera captures an image including the user's cornea in a subject. A housing houses the convex lens, the infrared light source, and the camera. The convex lens is provided with a plurality of reflection regions that reflects infrared light in an inside of the convex lens. The infrared light source causes a pattern of infrared light to appear on the user's cornea by emitting infrared light to each of the plurality of reflection regions provided in the convex lens.
