The protective layer includes a first resin layer arranged so as to cover the scintillator and a second resin layer arranged on the first resin layer, and the first resin layer contains a resin to which particles of a metal compound is added. A light reflectance r1 [%] of the first resin layer satisfies 47%&#x3c;r1&#x3c;75%, and a light reflectance r2 [%] of the second resin layer and a light absorptance a2 [%] of the second resin layer satisfy r2&#x3c;a2.

A radiation imaging panel is provided. The panel comprises a substrate on which a plurality of pixels each including a photoelectric conversion element are arranged, a scintillator arranged over the substrate, and a protective layer arranged so as to cover the scintillator. The scintillator includes a plurality of columnar crystals containing an alkali metal halide. The protective layer includes a resin layer containing a resin to which particles of a metal oxide are added. A thickness of the resin layer from an apex of each of the plurality of columnar crystals to an upper surface of the resin layer is not less than 10 &#x3bc;m and less than 30 &#x3bc;m, and a concentration of the particles in the resin layer is not less than 0.15 vol % and less than 7.5 vol %.

A radiation imaging apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a substrate in which conversion elements are arranged and which transmits light beams, a first scintillator arranged on a first surface side of the substrate, and a second scintillator arranged on a second surface side opposite to the first surface. The conversion elements include first conversion elements and second conversion elements. The first conversion elements are arranged so as to receive light beams from the first scintillator and the second scintillator. A light-shielding layer is arranged between the first scintillator and each of the second conversion elements so as to set light amounts of the second conversion elements from the first scintillator smaller than those of the first conversion elements from the first scintillator, and the second conversion elements are arranged to receive a light beam from the second scintillator.

A method for manufacturing a radiation detection apparatus is provided. The method comprising: forming a set of columnar crystals capable of converting radiation into visible light on a base; forming a supporting layer that supports the set of columnar crystals; separating the set of columnar crystals supported by the supporting layer from the base; preparing a sensor panel having a photoelectric conversion unit; and adhering a surface of the set of columnar crystals, that surface having been in contact with the base, to the sensor panel using an adhesive material, such that the set of columnar crystals covers the photoelectric conversion unit.

A radiation detection apparatus including: a sensor panel having a first face on which a pixel region is formed and a second face that is opposite the first face and including a connecting portion at one or more sides; a scintillator layer formed over the pixel region; and a protective film covering the scintillator layer and a portion of the sensor panel is provided. The protective film has a hot-pressed part. At the side of the sensor panel where the connecting portion is formed, the hot-pressed part is formed in a portion of the protective film covering the first face. At other sides of the sensor panel, the hot-pressed part is formed in at least one of a portion of the protective film covering a lateral face of the sensor panel and the second face.

A method of manufacturing a radiation detection apparatus is provided. The apparatus comprises a first scintillator layer, a second scintillator layer, and a sensor panel that detects light emitted by the first scintillator layer and the second scintillator layer. The method comprises preparing a sensor unit having the sensor panel and the first scintillator layer which includes a set of columnar crystals formed on the sensor panel, and a scintillator panel having a scintillator substrate and the second scintillator layer which includes a set of columnar crystals formed on the scintillator substrate, and fixing the scintillator panel to the sensor panel such that the first scintillator layer and the second scintillator layer face each other.
