In a hydraulic apparatus for an automatic transmission having a torque converter with a lockup clutch and CVT, there are provided a first control valve for controlling hydraulic pressure supply to the lockup clutch oil chamber, a first electromagnetic solenoid valve for controlling operation of the first control valve, a second control valve for controlling hydraulic pressure supply to the CVT pulleys, a second electromagnetic solenoid valve for controlling operation of the second control valve, a switching valve interposed between the oil chamber and the first control valve. In the apparatus, when detecting that the first control valve or first electromagnetic solenoid valve is failed and the lockup clutch is locked in engaged condition, current supply to the second electromagnetic solenoid valve is stopped so that it operates the switching valve to disengage the lockup clutch, thereby enabling to forcibly release the engagement without manipulation by the operator.

Hydraulic apparatus for automatic transmission

A lubrication pressure controller comprises a lubrication pressure regulating valve,, which is provided in a lubrication oil passage,directing hydraulic oil to lubricated parts, and a cooler pressure regulating valve,, which is provided in a discharge oil passage,of the lubrication pressure regulating valve,. The lubrication pressure regulating valve,adjusts the pressure in the lubrication oil passage,, and the cooler pressure regulating valve,adjusts the pressure supplied to an oil cooler,. The hydraulic oil discharged from the cooler pressure regulating valve,is returned through a recirculation line,to a suction oil passage,of a pump. In this construction, an adequate supply of lubrication oil is maintained even if one of the valves experiences locking of a valve spool on an open side. Moreover, by providing signal pressure generating means,, which applies a signal pressure to these two valves in correspondence with a driving condition, the lubrication pressure controller can be set to acquire a desired balance in the lubrication, cooling and recirculation for the hydraulic oil in response to a driving condition.

Lubrication pressure controller

A continuously variable V-belt transmission includes a lateral pressure control valve for controlling the lateral pressures of a drive pulley and a driven pulley, and a controller for controlling the lateral pressure control valve. The controller calculates a target belt transmission torque by adding a predetermined marginal torque to a transmission torque calculated based on a signal detected from a driving condition of a vehicle, and obtains, by means of a signal converter, a control signal for controlling the lateral pressure control valve. With this arrangement, it becomes possible to prevent slippage between the belt and pulleys and to produce a most appropriate clamping force even when the lateral pressure control oil pressure is varied due to secular and environmental changes in the pulley lateral pressure control valve, whereby the transmission is rendered durable, efficient in fuel consumption and highly reliable.

Continuously variable V-belt transmission

A control apparatus for a belt-type continuously variable transmission that has a drive pulley, a driven pulley, a V-belt trained around the drive and driven pulleys, a drive cylinder for varying the pulley width of the drive pulley, and a driven cylinder for varying the pulley width the said driven pulley. A pressure regulator valve produces pulley control pressures supplied to the drive and driven cylinders and a shift valve distributes the pulley control pressures to the drive and driven cylinders for varying the widths of the drive and driven pulleys for speed ratio control. An electric shift control normally controls the shift valve by electric power supplied to solenoid valves but the electric shift control causes the pressures in both the drive cylinder and said driven cylinder to be equal when the electric power is lost.

Failsafe control apparatus for belt-type continuously variable

A metallic V belt for use in a V-belt-type continuously variable transmission has an endless metallic belt strap and a plurality of metallic blocks each having a strap insertion slot defined therein and opening outwardly of the V belt at one side of the metallic block, the metallic blocks being mounted on that belt strap with the belt strap positioned in the strap insertion slots in the metallic blocks. A retaining belt strap or retainer is disposed in engagement with portions of the metallic blocks in covering relation to the endless belt strap in the strap insertion slots for retaining the metallic blocks against dislodgment from the belt strap. The retainer is in the form of an endless web having a flat transverse cross section and having at least one hole defined in the endless web. The hole in the endless web may be a slot, a narrow slit, or an elliptical hole.
