In a PESI ion source, a solvent supply unit () is placed above the liver (), which is the object of measurement, and by moving a probe () up and down such that the tip of the probe () passes through the solvent supply unit () and is inserted into the liver (), a sample is captured by the tip of said probe. The solvent supply unit () includes a container unit comprising a liquid-blocking upper film body () stretched over the bottom surface opening of a cylindrical body (), and a liquid-blocking lower film body () which is stretched out approximately in parallel with the upper film body () with a spacer interposed therebetween; the container unit houses a solvent (). Because the tip of the probe () passes through the solvent () during the up-and-down movement of the probe (), sufficient solvent adheres to the sample and when a high voltage is applied to the probe (), components in the sample are favorably ionized. Blood seeping from the liver () upwards through the hole through which the probe () was passed spreads in the periphery of the lower film body () and is not admixed into the solvent () in the container unit. By this means, it is possible to avoid blood from acting as a contaminant during measurement.

Mass spectrometer and biological sample analysis method using said mass spectrometer

In a sample injector for a gas chromatograph, the present invention improves the throughput of a GC analysis including the derivation of a target compound and reduces the tedious work of handling a reagent for the derivation. According to the present invention, a derivation reagent R is suctioned into a microsyringe, after which a small amount of air and a sample P to be analyzed are successively suctioned so that the reagent, the air and the sample are held in this order, from top to bottom. Then, the needleof the microsyringeis inserted through the septuminto the sample-vaporizing chamber, and the plungeris pushed halfway through so that only the sample is injected into the sample-vaporizing chamber. The sample thus injected is quickly vaporized into a gas sample and introduced into the column, where the target compound contained in the gas sample adheres to the inner wall of an inlet section of the column. When several seconds have passed after the injection of the sample, the plungeris further pushed down to inject the reagent into the sample-vaporizing chamber. Then, the reagent is turned into gas and introduced into the column, where the reagent reacts with the compound to produce a derivative. Subsequently, the temperature of the columnis raised to carry out a GC analysis.
