A nonlinear optically active copolymer having satisfactory orientation characteristics and able to allow for reduction in heat-induced orientation relaxation of a nonlinear optical material, and a nonlinear optical material obtained using the copolymer. The copolymer including at least a repeating unit A having adamantyl group and a repeating unit B having a nonlinear optically active moiety in one molecule, and an organic nonlinear optical material including the copolymer as a component.

It is possible to obtain a thin film that can form a minute pattern and that has a high index of refraction by using a polymer containing a triazine ring and containing a repeating unit structure represented for example by formula (22) or (26).

There is provided a polymerizable composition suitable to produce a molded product in which high refractive index is maintained, and dimensional change and a transmittance change further caused by a high-temperature heat history can be suppressed. A method for producing an organic microdisk structure, which is characterized by comprising: a cladding layer formation step 1 wherein a cladding layeris formed by printing a first inkthat contains a fluorine-containing hyperbranched polymer on a substrateby an inkjet method; a core layer formation step 2 wherein a core layeris formed by printing a second inkthat contains a laser dye and a triazine-based hyperbranched polymer containing no fluorine on the cladding layerby an inkjet method; and an etching step 3 wherein the cladding layeris etched using a solventthat dissolves only the fluorine-containing hyperbranched polymer. Consequently, an unconventional novel method for producing an organic microdisk structure with use of an inkjet method is able to be provided.

Provided is a triazine ring-containing hyperbranched polymer comprising the repeating unit structure represented by formula (1) and having one or more triazine ring terminals, said one or more triazine ring terminals being capped with a compound that differs from the diamine compound serving as the starting material for the polymer and has at least two active hydrogen groups. In addition to the polymer itself exhibiting high heat resistance, high transparency, a high refractive index, high light resistance, high solubility, and low volume shrinkage, it is also possible to use the polymer to provide a composition for film formation capable of yielding a thick film having high hardness. (In formula (1), R and R' each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, or an aralkyl group, and Ar represents a divalent organic group containing an aromatic ring and/or a heterocyclic ring.)

There is provided an optical waveguide which has appropriate orientation properties, a production process of which is simple so as to be suitable for producing an electro-optical element, and is able to reduce power consumption of the element due to excellent electro-optical properties, and further can be formed into a thin film and be layered; and a material for the optical waveguide. A cladding material of an optical waveguide, characterized by comprising a polymer compound including a triarylamine structure, and a nonlinear optical compound; and an optical waveguide produced by using the cladding material.

A film-forming composition is characterized by containing: a triazine ring-containing hyperbranched polymer containing a repeating unit structure represented by formula (1); and a dissolution-enhancing agent for breaking a hydrogen bond formed at least within the hyperbranched polymer and/or between molecules, between a nitrogen atom in the triazine ring, and a diarylamine-derived NH group. The film-forming composition has excellent dissolvability in organic solvents such as resist solvents, and has good handling and filtration properties at low viscosity. (In the formula, R and R' each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, or an aralkyl group (however, at least one of R and R&#x2032; represents a hydrogen atom); and Ar represents a divalent organic group containing an aromatic ring and/or a heterocyclic ring).

An aromatic polyamide, which is obtained by reacting a benzene tricarboxylic acid or a derivative thereof with a diamine compound in the presence of a terminally blocked compound having a crosslinkable group and a functional group that is reactive with a benzene tricarboxylic acid such as 1-amino-2-propanol or a derivative thereof as expressed by scheme (1), and which has a weight average molecular weight of 1,000-100,000 in terms of polystyrene as determined by gel permeation chromatography, has good solubility in organic solvents, while maintaining heat resistance and transparency. A thick film can be formed using a film-forming composition that contains this aromatic polyamide.

There is provided a switching element including two electrodes and an organic bistable material sandwiched between the electrodes, which is expected to be applied to an organic memory element or the like. A switching element which includes: two electrodes; and an organic thin film containing a metal fine particle and interposed between the electrodes, and which exhibits such a current bistability that the switching element has two stable resistance values in response to a voltage applied, the switching element characterized in that the metal fine particle is dispersed in the organic thin film with a metal fine particle-dispersing agent containing a polymer having a dithiocarbamate group and having a weight average molecular weight of 500 to 5,000,000.

Disclosed is a novel optically stable hyperbranched polymer whose molecular terminal can be derivatized with various compounds; and a method for producing such a polymer. Specifically disclosed is a hyperbranched polymer having a structure represented by Formula (1) wherein a halogen atom is at a molecular terminal. The hyperbranched polymer can be obtained by substituting the molecular terminal dithiocarbamate group of a hyperbranched polymer having a dithiocarbamate group at a molecular terminal, which is obtained by living radical polymerization of a dithiocarbamate compound having a vinyl group structure, with a halogen atom. Also disclosed is a hyperbranched polymer wherein an amino group or an ammonium group is at a molecular terminal instead of a halogen atom.
