A bipolar plate arranged to face an electrode along which electrolyte is circulated, the bipolar plate includes a flow passage that is provided on at least one of front and back surfaces of the bipolar plate and along which the electrolyte is circulated. The flow passage provided on the at least one of the front and back surfaces of the bipolar plate includes an introduction path along which the electrolyte is introduced and a discharge path that does not communicate with and is independent of the introduction path and along which the electrolyte is discharged. At least one of the introduction path and the discharge path includes an inclined groove that non-orthogonally intersects a long side and a short side of an imaginary rectangle that includes an outer edge of the bipolar plate.

Bipolar plate, cell stack, and redox flow battery

An electrode for redox flow battery is disposed opposite a membrane of a redox flow battery. The electrode includes a fiber assembly including a plurality of carbon fibers. The fiber assembly includes soft carbon fibers with a Young's modulus of 200 GPa or less. An average carbon fiber diameter of the soft carbon fibers is preferably 20 &#x3bc;m or less.

Provided is a redox flow battery that allows suppression of generation of precipitate and also has a high energy density. The redox flow battery includes a battery cell including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a membrane interposed between the electrodes, the battery being configured to be charged and discharged while a positive electrode electrolyte and a negative electrode electrolyte are supplied to the battery cell, wherein the positive electrode electrolyte contains manganese ions, titanium ions, and reactive metal ions, the negative electrode electrolyte contains at least one species of metal ions selected from titanium ions, vanadium ions, chromium ions, and zinc ions, and the reactive metal ions are at least one selected from vanadium ions, chromium ions, iron ions, cobalt ions, copper ions, molybdenum ions, ruthenium ions, palladium ions, silver ions, tungsten ions, mercury ions, and cerium ions.

Redox flow battery

Provided are a bipolar plate that can decrease the internal resistance of a flow battery, a redox flow battery, and a method for producing a bipolar plate. A bipolar plate sandwiched between a positive electrode in which a positive electrode electrolyte flows and a negative electrode in which a negative electrode electrolyte flows includes a positive-electrode-side surface in which a flow channel having a plurality of grooves through which the positive electrode electrolyte flows is provided and a negative-electrode-side surface in which a flow channel having a plurality of grooves through which the negative electrode electrolyte flows is provided. Each of the flow channels includes an inflow channel through which the electrolyte flows into the electrode and an outflow channel through which the electrolyte flows out of the electrode, the inflow channel and the outflow channel are not in communication with each other and are independent from each other, and the grooves each have a wide portion inside the groove, the wide portion having a width larger than a width of an opening of the groove.

Bipolar plate, redox flow battery, and method for producing bipolar plate

A redox flow cell membrane includes a porous membrane that has a mean flow pore size of not more than 100 nm, that has a thickness of not more than 500 &#x3bc;m, and that has an air flow rate of not less than 0.1 ml/s&#xb7;cm. When the redox flow cell membrane is used for a V&#x2014;V-based redox flow cell, the porous membrane preferably has a mean flow pore size of not more than 30 nm.

Redox flow cell membrane

Provided is a redox flow battery that can suppress generation of a precipitation on a positive electrode. The redox flow battery performs charging and discharging by supplying a positive electrode electrolyte and a negative electrode electrolyte to a battery cell that includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separating membrane interposed between the two electrodes. The positive electrode electrolyte contains a manganese ion and an additional metal ion, the negative electrode electrolyte contains at least one metal ion selected from a titanium ion, a vanadium ion, a chromium ion, and a zinc ion, and the additional metal ion contained in the positive electrode electrolyte is at least one of an aluminum ion, a cadmium ion, an indium ion, a tin ion, an antimony ion, an iridium ion, a gold ion, a lead ion, a bismuth ion, and a magnesium ion.

A redox flow battery having reduced internal resistance is provided. The redox flow battery includes a membrane, a bipolar plate, an electrode disposed between the membrane and the bipolar plate, an inlet port for supplying an electrolyte to the electrode, and an outlet port for discharging the electrolyte from the electrode, and performs a charge-discharge reaction by allowing the electrolyte to flow in the electrode. The electrode includes an anisotropic electrode layer having different permeabilities between a direction A1 on a plane of the electrode and a direction A2 orthogonal to the direction A1 on the plane of the electrode. In the anisotropic electrode layer, a permeability K1 in the direction A1 is larger than a permeability K2 in the direction A2. The electrode is disposed such that the direction A1 is substantially parallel to a main flow direction of the electrolyte in the electrode, the main flow direction being determined on the basis of a positional relationship between the inlet port and the outlet port and a shape of a surface of the bipolar plate on the electrode side.

Redox flow battery with anisotropic electrode layer

A superconducting thin film material exhibiting excellent superconducting properties and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. A superconducting thin film material includes a substrate, and a superconducting film formed on the substrate. The superconducting film includes an MOD layer formed by an MOD process, and a gas-phase-formed layer formed on the MOD layer by a gas-phase process. Since the MOD layer is formed first and then the gas-phase-formed layer is formed in this manner, degradation of the properties of the gas-phase-formed layer due to heat treatment in the step of forming the MOD layer (heat treatment in the MOD process) can be prevented.
