An antenna system includes a substrate of a dielectric material. A conductive layer defines a feed slot joins a number of side slots arranged in a line forming an array. The side slots are spaced from one another and the conductive layer is disposed on the substrate. The array is configured to radiate a radiation pattern characterized by a first beam width in a first plane and a second beam width in a second plane perpendicular to the first plane, wherein the first beam width is wider than the second beam width.

An antenna system includes a substrate of a dielectric material. A conductive feed joins a number of conductive patches arranged in a line forming an array. The conductive patches are spaced from one another and the array is disposed on the substrate. The array has first and second sides. A first ground plane is disposed on the first side of the array and is spaced apart from the array. A number of conducting pillars ground the substrate to the first ground plane, and the conducting pillars define a second ground plane on the substrate. Described is a system for estimating a trajectory of a borehole. The system processes signals of sensor streams obtained from an inertial sensor system. Using the set of processed signals, the system determines whether a drill is in a survey mode state or a continuous mode state, and a measured depth of the borehole is determined. A set of survey mode positioning algorithms is applied when the drill is stationary. A set of continuous mode navigation algorithms is applied when the drill is non-stationary. Using at least one Kalman filter, results of the set of survey mode positioning algorithms and the set of continuous mode navigation algorithms are combined. An estimate of a borehole trajectory and corresponding ellipse of uncertainty (EOU) is generated using the combined results.

Opportunistic sensor fusion algorithm for autonomous guidance while drilling

A thin film, flexible antenna that has particular application to be adhered to vehicle glass, where the antenna has a wideband antenna geometry and is operable to receive right-hand or left-hand circularly polarized signals from, for example, GPS and SDARS satellites. The antenna is a printed planar antenna formed to the substrate and includes a ground plane having a slot formed therein and a tuning sleeve having a vertical portion and a horizontal portion. The planar antenna further includes a radiating element positioned adjacent to the tuning sleeve and including a feed portion positioned within the slot, where the radiating element includes a first horizontal portion and a second horizontal portion extending from a vertical portion towards the vertical portion of the sleeve. The ground plane is operable to generate circularly polarized signals to be received by the radiating element where the sleeve provides phase tuning of the signals.

The perimeter portion is operable to generate circularly polarized signals to be received by the radiating element where the tuning stubs provide phase tuning of the circularly polarized signals.

CPW-fed circularly polarized applique antennas for GPS and SDARS bands

An antenna assembly including a planar antenna formed on a dielectric substrate and a frequency selective impedance surface formed on the substrate and at least partially surrounding the antenna. The frequency selective impedance surface receives surface waves propagating along the dielectric substrate generated by the antenna, where the impedance surface mitigates negative effects of the surface waves by converting the surface wave energy into leaky-wave radiation, and also possibly providing some control of the radiation gain pattern of the antenna. In one embodiment, the dielectric substrate is vehicle glass, such as a vehicle windshield.

A thin film, flexible, leaky-wave CPW antenna that can mounted to a dielectric substrate on a vehicle, such as vehicle glass, where the antenna has application for a MIMO LTE cellular system, and where the conductive portion of the antenna can employ transparent conductors. The antenna includes a ground plane having opposing first and second ground lines defining a gap therebetween and an antenna radiating element extending between the ground lines in the gap. The antenna radiating element includes a plurality of leaky-wave tuning stubs crossing the antenna radiating element at predetermined intervals that operates to change the radiation pattern of the antenna to be more parallel to the ground.

Described is a system for estimating measured depth of a borehole. The system comprises a drilling fluid pulse telemetry system positioned in a borehole and processors connected with the drilling fluid pulse telemetry system. Time series measures are obtained from an environmental sensor package. Initial estimates of a time delay and path attenuation amplitude are determined. An error for the initial estimates is determined, and iterative minimization of the error is performed until source signal parameters converge, resulting in a least squares estimate of the source signal and the reflected signals. The least squares estimate is used to obtain time delay values, which are then used to continuously generate an estimate of a measured depth of the borehole.

Wideband coplanar waveguide fed monopole applique antennas

The present application generally relates communications and hazard avoidance within a monitored driving environment. More specifically, the application teaches a system for semi-transparent and flexible millimeter wave circuits and antennas using inexpensive PET substrate. The system facilitates the fabrication of millimeter wave circuits, transmission lines and antennas in various optically transparent platform where optical transparency is desired, for example in automotive radar in windows, windshield, and rear/side mirrors.

Method and apparatus for semitransparent antenna and transmission lines

A connector assembly that provides a proper impedance connection between a CPW antenna mounted on automotive glass to a FAKRA-type connector. The connector assembly includes a PCB having a top surface and a bottom surface and being adhered to the glass. Vias are provided through the PCB to make electrical contact between metallization planes on the top surface and the bottom surface of the PCB. Terminals that are part of the connector extend through some of the vias, where ground terminals provide mechanical stability and make electrical contact with the metallization planes on the bottom surface of the PCB and a signal terminal provides an electrical connection to the antenna radiating element. The PCB is adhered to a substrate on which the antenna is mounted so that the metallization planes and microstrip lines make electrical contact with a CPW feed structure that feeds the antenna.
