A projection lens system for an image projection apparatus that enhances the image aberration correction rate to achieve high resolution and luminance. The lens system includes a first lens group having first and second spherical lenses of positive refraction power movable along an optical axis, a second lens group having a third doublet lens formed with a lens of positive refraction power and a lens of negative refraction power in junction to correct chromatic aberration, and a fourth spherical lens to correct spherical aberration, a third lens group having lenses of positive refraction power, and a fourth lens group for correcting distortions having a seventh spherical lens being concave on both surfaces thereof, an eighth spherical lens of negative refraction power having a concave surface on one side and a convex surface on the other side, and a ninth lens of negative refraction power having an aspheric surface.

Projection lens system for image projection apparatus

Disclosed is an image projecting apparatus having two reflective mirrors. In an image projecting apparatus which forms a desired image on a digital micromirror panel (DMD) by projecting a ray of light from a light source thereonto, the surface parallel with the longer side of the movable mirror surface of the DMD panel and vertical to the movable mirror surface is parallel with the optical axis of the light source. The first reflective mirror reflects the ray of light from the light source at a predetermined angle, and the second reflective mirror is arranged to reflect the reflective light from the first reflective mirror to fall incident on the movable mirror surface of the DMD panel. The distance from the center of the DMD panel to the optical axis is minimized, and as a result, the overall height of the image projecting apparatus is reduced.

Image projecting apparatus

A reflection type projector having a structure so that aberration generated when sheet type PBS is adopted is corrected is provided. The reflection type projector includes a light source, a sheet type PBS arranged to be inclined with respect to an optical axis on a proceeding path of light emitted from the light source, a reflection type display device for generating an image from an incident light polarized in one direction passing the sheet type PBS and reflecting the generated image toward the sheet type PBS, a relay lens unit arranged on an optical path for guiding an incident light by focusing and/or diverging the incident light, a device for correcting aberration of an incident light, arranged on a proceeding path of the light generated from the reflection type display device and passing the sheet type PBS, and a projection lens unit for magnifying and projecting the light transmitting the correction device toward a screen.

A color projector for correcting chromatism by changing the sizes or positions of three display devices with respect to each color is provided. In the color projector, two or more display devices selected from the first through third display devices have different sizes of effective areas where an image is formed such that chromatism generated while lights of different colors synthesized by the synthesizing device pass the projection lens unit can be corrected. Also, the distances between two or more display devices selected from the first through third display devices and the projection lens unit are different from one another such that chromatism generated while lights of different colors synthesized by the synthesizing device pass the projection lens unit can be corrected.

Color projector

An LCD device has a distorted and/or curved shape corresponding to an image formed on the screen before correcting for distortion and/or curvature of the image formed on the screen, which are generated due to distortion aberration and/or curvature aberration of the projection lens unit, so that distortion and/or curvature can be corrected. The LCD device has a pin-cushion type structure distorted and curved positively (&plus;) so that negative (&minus;) distortion and curvature of the image formed on the screen, which is generated due to distortion aberration and curvature aberration of the projection lens unit, can be corrected. Also, the LCD device includes a front substrate and a rear substrate, each having electrodes formed thereon, and the front substrate and/or the rear substrate have a pin-cushion shape distorted and/or curved positively (&plus;). Thus, distortion aberration and/or curvature aberration of optical lenses of a projection lens unit can be corrected by appropriately correcting a light emitting point of image light.
