An image sensor including a planar sensor array, a lens configured to form an optical image on the planar sensor array and characterized by a locus of focal points on a curved surface, and a cover glass with multiple thickness levels or multiple cover glasses of different sizes. The one or more cover glasses are configured to shift the locus of focal points for large field angles, such that there are multiple intersections between the planar sensor array and the locus of focal points for a large FOV, and thus multiple zones with best focus on the planar sensor array.

An image sensor device includes two or more image sensor arrays (or two or more regions of an image sensor array) and a low-power processor in a same package for capturing two or more images of an object, such as an eye of a user, using light in two or more wavelength bands, such as visible band, near-infrared band, and short-wave infrared band. The image sensor device includes one or more lens assemblies and/or a beam splitter for forming an image of the object on each of the two or more image sensor arrays. The image sensor device also includes one or more filters configured to select light from multiple wavelength bands for imaging by the respective image sensor arrays.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to a sensor module. In some aspects, a sensor module may include a collar configured to be attached to a camera module for a user device. The collar may include a first opening that is configured to align with an aperture of a camera of the camera module, and a second opening. The sensor module may include a sensor embedded in the collar. The sensor may be aligned with the second opening of the collar. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to optical character detection. In some aspects, a user device may receive, from a vision sensor, a first image that is associated with a first optical character image. The user device may determine, using an image processing model, that the first image depicts the first optical character image. The user device may cause, based at least in part on determining that the first image depicts the first optical character image, a camera to capture a second image that is associated with a second optical character image. The user device may perform an action associated with the second image. Numerous other aspects are provided.

In one example, an image sensor module comprises one or more covers having at least a first opening and a second opening, a first lens mounted in the first opening and having a first field of view (FOV) centered at a first axis having a first orientation, a second lens mounted in the second opening and having a second FOV centered at a second axis having a second orientation different from the first orientation, a first image sensor housed within the one or more covers and configured to detect light via the first lens, and a second image sensor housed within the one or more covers and configured to detect light via the second lens. The first image sensor and the second image sensor are configured to provide, based on the detected light, image data of a combined FOV larger than each of the first FOV and the second FOV.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a system. In some aspects, the system may include an emitter configured to emit a light. The system may include a light guide configured to direct the light toward a pupil of an eye. The light guide may include a directing portion configured to propagate the light. The light guide may include a turning portion configured to receive light from the directing portion and direct the light toward the pupil of the eye and configured to receive reflected light directed from the pupil of the eye and direct the reflected light toward the directing portion. The system may include a receiver configured to receive the reflected light from the light guide. The system may include a processor configured to determine a gaze direction of the pupil of the eye based at least in part on the reflected light received by the receiver.

Disclosed herein are techniques for dynamically forming an optical component that automatically aligns with and changes positions with a scanning light beam to modify the wave front of the scanning light beam, such as collimating the scanning light beam. More specifically, a patterning beam that aligns with the scanning light beam may be scanned together with the scanning light beam to form the self-aligning and travelling optical component in an electro-optic material layer that is connected in serial with a photoconductive material layer to a voltage source, where the patterning beam optically modulates the impedance of the photoconductive material layer and therefore an electric field within the electro-optic material layer, the modulated electric field causing localized changes of refractive index in the electro-optic material layer to form the self-aligning and travelling optical component.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus related to an illumination system for a display device. In one aspect, the illumination system includes a light guide having a view region, which directly overlies display elements of a display, and a ledge region between the view region and a light source that injects light into the light guide. The ledge region is coated with an at least partially non-transmissive layer. The layer can be at least partially absorptive and/or at least partially reflective. In some implementations, the layer can include microstructures configured to turn steep-angle light such that it is redirected across the light guide at a shallower angle. In some implementations, the boundary between the ledge region and the view region of the light guide can have a nonlinear shape.

Techniques for providing LED-based backlighting in liquid crystal flat panel displays are disclosed. In one embodiment, optical sensors are provided to sense illuminations from colored LED groups and provide feedback signals to a controller so that a desired ratio of the illuminations is maintained. As a result, true colors could be reproduced regardless of possible irregularities that may be happening to LEDs used in the colored LED groups to backlight an LCD panel.

In one embodiment, the backlighting includes at least three color groups of light emitting diodes (LEDs) that are turned on successively for one frame of image. Techniques for providing backlight techniques in liquid crystal flat panel displays are disclosed. According to one aspect of the techniques, the source to backlight a liquid crystal panel includes a plurality of light emitting diodes that are in at least three colors. The exact colors of the light emitting diodes are chosen to cover or exceed a full spectrum of color reproductions in accordance with a television standard (e.g., NTSC or PAL) in addition to a balanced white. In one embodiment, a set of control signals is configured to ensure that the light emitting diodes provide desired and consistent backlighting to a LCD panel. One of the control signals adaptive to a scene or content of a scene causes the backlighting to change accordingly or drastically to create artistic effects required or desired in the scene.
