A method and apparatus for enhancing a digital image captured by a digital camera: provides one or more data selected from the group consisting of camera model type, image sensor type, type of light source, type of image compression, previous noise reduction processing history, previous spatial sharpening processing history, and camera noise magnitude; employs the one or more data to generate one or more noise processing parameters; and employs the one or more noise processing parameters to enhance the spatial detail of the digital image.

Method and apparatus for enhancing digital images utilizing non-image data

A method for estimating the noise appearance in an image, includes the steps of: forming a noise table representing noise magnitude vs. intensity of the image; and generating a noise metric from the noise table, said noise metric representing the noise appearance in the image.

A reversal photographic element comprising a support and, coated on said support, at least one image recording emulsion layer comprised of: a) a light sensitive silver halide imaging emulsion; and b) a non-image forming silver halide emulsion having an average grain size less than 0.3 &mgr;m and which comprises at least 13 percent of the total silver in the image recording layer, wherein the non-image forming silver halide emulsion comprises at least 1 mole percent iodide, and the iodide mole percentage of the non-image forming silver halide emulsion is equal to or higher than that of the imaging emulsion. The combination of the imaging emulsion and a higher iodide concentration non-imaging emulsion in an imaging layer gives an increase in interlayer interimage effects, increasing the color of the film.

Reversal photographic element comprising an imaging layer containing imaging and non-image forming emulsions

Photographic elements capable of forming a reversal image are disclosed comprising a support and, coated on said support, at least one image recording emulsion layer comprised of a dispensing medium and radiation sensitive silver halide grains and at least one substantially non-image forming layer. In one embodiment, the substantially non-image forming layer comprises: a) a light sensitive silver halide imaging emulsion which is less than 10 percent of the mass of the total imaging emulsion in the element; b) a first non-image forming silver salt emulsion having an average grain size less than 0.15 .mu.m; and c) a second non-image forming silver salt emulsion comprising iodide having an average grain size greater than that of the first non-image forming emulsion. In a second embodiment, the substantially non-image forming layer comprises: a) a light sensitive silver halide imaging emulsion which is less than 10 percent of the mass of the total imaging emulsion in the element; and b) a polydisperse non-image forming silver salt emulsion comprising iodide and having an average grain size less than 0.15 .mu.m and a coefficient of variation of at least 50%. In the substantially non-image forming layer of the invention, the surface area ratio of the grains of the non-image forming emulsion(s) to the grains of the imaging emulsion is more than 2:1. The combination of the imaging and non-imaging emulsions in the special substantially non-image forming layer gives an increase in interlayer interimage effects, increasing the color of the film.

Reversal photographic elements comprising an additional layer containing

Silver halide photographic elements which are capable of producing reversal images are disclosed including a substantially non-image forming overcoat or intercoat layer comprising an image forming emulsion and a non-image forming emulsion. The combination of imaging emulsion and nonimaging emulsion in a substantially non-image forming overcoat or intercoat layer results in an increase in interlayer interimage effects.

A photographic element comprising a support having located thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer, the element containing a release compound that provides a non-imagewise distribution of a photographically active moiety, the release compound comprising a blocking group from which the photographically active moiety is released, the release compound further comprising a ballasting group other than a coupler moiety, and an aqueous solubilizing group, both the ballasting group and the aqueous solubilizing group being attached to the blocking group.
