The filter element may be configured to preferentially attenuate light passing through the filter element, such that light output has improved color uniformity when compared to similar light emitting devices without a filter element.

The first lead frame comprises two tongues and a reflector cup. The first and second lead frames are attached to the plastic structural body. The light source is mounted and electrically connected at the bottom of the inside of the reflector cup. The light source is also electrically connected to the second lead frame by a wire bond. The reflector cup is surrounded on at least four sides by the encapsulant, the encapsulant having a domed portion that functions as the optical lens, the encapsulant being an integral single piece structure.

Methods of making a light emitter are disclosed herein. An embodiment of a method comprises fabricating a line of first leads, the line of first leads comprising a plurality connected individual first leads; fabricating a line of second leads, the line of second leads comprising a plurality of connected individual second leads; physically connecting the line of first leads to the line of second leads, wherein a first individual first lead is adjacent a first individual second lead; attaching a light emitting device to the first individual first lead; electrically connecting the light emitting device to the first individual second lead; encapsulating a portion of the individual first lead and a portion of the individual second lead as a single unit; and separating the encapsulated first individual lead and the second individual lead from the first line of leads and the second line of leads.

An encapsulated package (e.g., an epoxy-encapsulated package) that includes a first surface is provided. A filter layer is then coated directly onto the first surface. A light-emitting device having an anode and a cathode is disclosed herein. An embodiment of the light-emitting device comprises a first lead connected to the anode of the light-emitting device and a second lead connected to the cathode of the light-emitting device. The first lead has a first bend, wherein the direction of the first bend indicates that the first lead is connected to the anode. The second lead has a second bend, wherein the direction of the second bend indicates that the second lead is connected to the cathode.

A light source having a first mixing chamber, a light pipe structure, and a controller is disclosed. The first mixing chamber includes a first plurality of LEDs, the first mixing chamber having a first transparent window through which light from the first plurality of LEDs exits the first mixing chamber. The light pipe structure has a first end optically coupled to the window such that light from the first plurality of LEDs enters the first end and a second end through which the light exits. The controller determines the power that is applied to the first plurality of LEDs and includes a photodetector optically coupled to the second end of the light pipe structure. The photodetector generates signals indicative of an intensity of light generated by the LEDs, the controller causing the LEDs to be powered such that the signal matches a target value.

A device and method for producing an enhanced color image of a scene of interest captures a grayscale image of the scene of interest using a flash of infrared light and a color image of the scene of interest without using any flash of infrared light. The grayscale information from the grayscale image and the visible color information from the color image are combined to produce the enhanced color image.

A display device for providing optical feedback includes light sources, each for emitting light in a different respective wavelength range, electro-optical elements defining pixels of an image, each for selectively passing light in one of the wavelength ranges and a sensor for measuring the intensity of light output from a portion of the electro-optical elements. To provide the optical feedback, a controller activates one of the light sources, alters those electro-optical elements within the portion of the electro-optical elements that are arranged to pass light in the wavelength range of a select one of the light source and reads out the measured intensity from the sensor. Based on the measured light intensity, the controller adjusts an illumination parameter associated with the select light source.
