A method for producing a hierarchical mesoporous beta includes mixing a beta zeolite with an aqueous metal hydroxide solution and heating the beta zeolite and the aqueous metal hydroxide mixture to produce a desilicated beta zeolite, contacting the desilicated beta zeolite with an ammonium salt solution to produce an intermediate hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite, and treating the intermediate hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite with an acidic solution to produce the hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite. The hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite includes a molar ratio of silicon to aluminum of greater than 12.5, a total pore volume of greater than or equal to the total pore volume of the intermediate hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite, and an average mesopore size of greater than or equal to the average mesopore size of the hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite. The method may also include calcining the intermediate hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite.

Methods for producing hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolite

A method for producing one or more of benzene, toluene, or xylene may include contacting a feed stream including Calkylaromatic hydrocarbons with a catalyst mixture to form one or more of benzene, toluene, or xylene. The catalyst mixture may include mesoporous zeolite Beta, ZSM-5 zeolite, one or more active metals, and binder material. The feed stream may include Calkylaromatic hydrocarbons in an amount of at least 10 wt. %. The weight ratio of mesoporous zeolite Beta to ZSM-5 zeolite may be from 2 to 4.

Methods for producing xylenes with limited ethylbenzene production

Compositions, devices, and methods relating to the use of mixed-matrix membranes containing metal-organic frameworks to separate gases are generally described. In some embodiments, branched nanoparticles made at least in part of metal-organic frameworks are described. In some embodiments, the morphology and size of the branched nanoparticles are controlled by the presence of a chemical modulator during synthesis. In some embodiments, the branched nanoparticles are uniformly distributed in a mixed-matrix membrane. In some embodiments, the mixed-matrix membrane is configured to separate one or more gases from a gas mixture. In some embodiments, the branched nanoparticles contribute at least in part to an increase in permeability, selectivity, and/or resistance to plasticization of the mixed-matrix membrane.

Branched metal-organic framework nanoparticles in mixed-matrix membranes and associated methods

In accordance with one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a multi-stage process for upgrading pyrolysis oil comprising polyaromatic compounds to benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) includes upgrading the pyrolysis oil in a slurry-phase reactor zone to produce intermediate products, wherein the slurry-phase reactor zone comprises a mixed metal oxide catalyst; and hydrocracking the intermediate products in a fixed-bed reactor zone to produce the BTEX, wherein the fixed-bed reactor zone comprises a mesoporous zeolite-supported metal catalyst.

Two stage catalytic process for pyrolysis oil upgrading to btex

A multi-functional composite catalyst includes a catalyst support material, a preformed catalyst material at least partially secured in the catalyst support, and at least one catalytically active compound supported by the catalyst support, the preformed catalyst material, or both. The catalyst support material may include fumed silica, alumina, fumed alumina, fumed titania, or combinations of these. A catalytic activity of the catalytically active compound may be different than a catalytic activity of the preformed catalyst material. The composite catalyst may be catalyst for producing propene from 2-butene and may include a zeolite as the preformed catalyst material and a metal oxide, such as tungsten oxide, as the catalytically active material. A method of making the composite catalyst may include aerosolizing a catalyst precursor mixture that includes a preformed catalyst material, catalyst support precursor, and catalytically active compound precursor, and drying the aerosolized catalyst precursor mixture.

Multi-functional composite catalyst materials and methods of synthesizing the catalyst materials

A method of making a multifunctional catalyst for upgrading pyrolysis oil includes contacting a hierarchical mesoporous zeolite support with a solution including at least a first metal catalyst precursor and a second metal catalyst precursor, each or both of which may include a heteropolyacid. The hierarchical mesoporous zeolite support may have an average pore size of from 2 nm to 40 nm. Contacting the hierarchical mesoporous zeolite support with the solution deposits or adsorbs the first metal catalyst precursor and the second catalyst precursor onto outer surfaces and pore surfaces of the hierarchical mesoporous zeolite support to produce a multifunctional catalyst precursor. The method further includes removing excess solution and calcining the multifunctional catalyst precursor to produce the multifunctional catalyst comprising at least a first metal catalyst and a second metal catalyst deposited on the outer surfaces and pore surfaces of the hierarchical mesoporous zeolite support.

Methods for producing mesoporous zeolite multifunctional catalysts for upgrading pyrolysis oil

Methods for producing mesoporous beta zeolites from parent beta zeolites having a Si/Al molar ratio of at least 10 comprise selecting a target average mesoporous size between 2 nm and 8 nm for the parent beta zeolites, selecting a pore directing agent (PDA) based on the target average mesopore size, where a non-ionic surfactant, a small cationic surfactant has a molecular weight of greater than 100 grams/mole, or both may be selected as the PDA when the target average mesopore size is at least 5 nm, and a large cationic surfactant having a molecular weight of less than 100 grams/mole may be selected as the PDA when the target average mesopore size is less than 5 nm. The method further comprises adding the selected PDA to an alkaline solution to form a PDA-base mixture, and adding the parent beta zeolites to the PDA-base mixture to produce the mesoporous beta zeolites.

Methods of producing hierarchical beta zeolites with tunable mesoporosity through pore directing agent assisted base leaching

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a method of producing hierarchical mesoporous zeolite beta. The method comprises providing a parent zeolite beta with a silicon to aluminum molar ratio of 5 to 50. The method further comprises, mixing the parent zeolite beta with an aqueous metal hydroxide solution and heating the parent zeolite beta and aqueous metal hydroxide mixture to a temperatures greater than or equal to 100&#xb0; C. to produce the hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolites having and average pore size greater than 8 nm. In embodiments, the hierarchical mesoporous beta zeolites are produced without a templating agent or pore-directing agent.
