A wearable device (such as a glove or other control adapted to be worn on a portion of a body) includes multiple magnetic field generators at various locations on the wearable device and a magnetic flux sensor at a predetermined position relative to the wearable device. A position determines spatial positions of locations of the wearable device based on magnetic fields generated by various magnetic field generators and detected by the magnetic flux sensor. In some embodiments, the magnetic field generators have known positions relative to each other. Additionally, each magnetic field generator may generate a magnetic field in response to an input signal having a particular attribute, allowing the magnetic flux sensor to identify magnetic fields generated by different magnetic field generators.

An apparatus including a sensing device configured to be coupled to an electrical outlet is provided. The sensing device can include a data acquisition receiver configured to receive electrical noise via the electrical outlet when the sensing device is coupled to the electrical outlet. The electrical outlet can be electrically coupled to an electrical power infrastructure. One or more electrical devices can be coupled to the electrical power infrastructure and can generate at least a portion of the electrical noise on the electrical power infrastructure. The data acquisition receiver can be configured to convert the electrical noise into one or more first data signals. The apparatus also can include a processing module configured to run on a processor of a computational unit. The sensing device can be in communication with the computational unit. The processing module can be further configured to identify each of two or more operating states of each of the one or more electrical devices at least in part using the one or more first data signals. The two or more operating states of each electrical device of the one or more electrical devices can be each different user-driven operating states of the electrical device when the electrical device is in an on-power state. Other embodiments are provided.

Detecting user-driven operating states of electronic devices from a single sensing point

A wearable device to be worn on a body part includes a magnetic field generator, a magnetic field sensor, and a controller. The controller instructs the magnetic field generator to generate a magnetic field, instructs magnetic field sensor to measure a sensor signal, and to determine a position of the body part based on the measured sensor signal. The magnetic field sensor can include multiple sensor elements with known or solved positions relative to one another. The wearable device can be a glove. The controller may determine a bend angle of a finger or an angle between two fingers.

A computing system includes: an input-output unit configured to identify a tone-detection result for representing a transmission tone received at a device; a control unit, coupled to the input-output unit, configured to: determine a wave-detection profile including a frequency shift based on the tone-detection result, calculate a command-movement direction based on the wave-detection profile for representing the command-movement direction relative to the device and a further device, and identify a gesture command based on the command-movement direction for operating the device relative to the further device including displaying on the device.
