According to one implementation, a method includes receiving a request to identify points of interest (POIs), obtaining data identifying (i) candidate points of interest (POIs) that satisfy the request, (ii) a respective category associated with each candidate POI, and (iii) a non-scaled score associated with each candidate POI, and ranking, for each of one or more of the categories, the candidate POIs associated with the category, based on the respective non-scaled scores. Enforcing category diversity

Systems and techniques for testing audio-video synchronization using one or more timestamps are presented. On a media sender end, a media stream with a video stream and an audio stream is generated. A matrix barcode timestamp is added onto a video frame of the video stream at a particular time. Furthermore, a tone timestamp is embedded into the audio stream at the particular time. Additionally, on a media receiver end, a modified media stream is received. For example, the video stream with the matrix barcode timestamp at the particular time and the audio stream with the tone timestamp at the particular time are received. The matrix barcode timestamp is decoded to determine a first time value and the tone timestamp is decoded to determine a second time value. The first time value is compared with the second time value to determine synchronization of the video stream and the audio stream.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for scoring concept terms using a deep network. One of the methods includes receiving an input comprising a plurality of features of a resource, wherein each feature is a value of a respective attribute of the resource; processing each of the features using a respective embedding function to generate one or more numeric values; processing the numeric values using one or more neural network layers to generate an alternative representation of the features, wherein processing the floating point values comprises applying one or more non-linear transformations to the floating point values; and processing the alternative representation of the input using a classifier to generate a respective category score for each category in a pre-determined set of categories, wherein each of the respective category scores measure a predicted likelihood that the resource belongs to the corresponding category.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that considers lexical synonyms for terms while processing a query. During operation, the system receives a query containing one or more terms. Next, the system identifies one or more lexical synonyms for the one or more terms. The system then generates an altered query using the one or more lexical synonyms and processes the altered query to produce search results.

A first co-occurrence frequency is determined for co-occurring terms in search queries that include the first term. A first vector is generated for the first term using the first co-occurrence frequencies. A second co-occurrence frequency is determined for the co-occurring terms in the search queries that include the first term adjacent to the second term. A second vector is generated for the second term using the second co-occurrence frequencies. A score for the second term as a context for a substitution rule based on the first term is computed, wherein the score is based on a comparison between the first vector and the second vector.

One of the methods includes selecting a first term and a candidate substitute term for the first term. A first vector is generated for the first term using co-occurrence frequencies of terms that occur in search queries that include the first term. A second vector is generated for the candidate substitute term using co-occurrence frequencies of terms that occur in search queries that include the candidate substitute term. The first vector and the second vector are compared to score an association between the first term and the candidate substitute term.
