According to an aspect, a display device includes: a substrate including a display region and a non-display region surrounding the display region; at least one driver IC including connecting terminals with a first surface fixed to face the non-display region; first wires supplying a signal to the display region; first bumps connected with the first wires; second wires transferring a signal to and from outside; second bumps connected with the second wires; and inspection wires. The connecting terminals of the driver IC include first connecting terminals overlapping the first or second bumps in plan view, and second connecting terminals not overlapping the first or second bumps in plan view. The inspection wires include a connecting conductor between themselves and at least one of the second connecting terminals. The inspection wires are pulled out to an outside of the driver IC in plan view.

Display Device

A liquid crystal display device includes an array substrate, a counter substrate and a liquid crystal layer held between the array substrate and the counter substrate. A display portion having a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix is formed of the substrates and the liquid crystal layer. Each of the pixels includes a pixel electrode and a counter electrode arranged opposing to the pixel electrode. A driving portion is formed on the array substrate to supply a pixel voltage to the pixel electrode. A correcting circuit is formed on the array substrate to correct the voltage supplied to the pixel electrode by adding a predetermined DC voltage to the voltage supplied to the pixel electrode corresponding to gradations to be displayed in the pixel.

Liquid crystal display device and method of driving the same

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first gate line, a second gate line, a common line, a first electrode, an insulation film, and a second electrode. The common line includes a first edge, which has a non-linear shape and is formed at a first distance from the first gate line, and a second edge, which is formed at a second distance, which is shorter than the first distance, from the second gate line. The first electrode is disposed between the first gate line and the second gate line and put in contact with the common line. The insulation film is disposed above the first electrode. The second electrode is disposed above the insulation film, opposed to the first electrode, extending immediately above the first edge of the common line, and having a slit formed therein.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel having an active area in which pixels are arranged in a matrix including first and second signal lines and connecting lines. The second signal lines and connecting lines extend in a column direction in the active area. The first signal lines extend in a row direction so as to cross the second signal lines and the connecting lines. The first signal lines are connected to the connecting lines through contact portions provided at the cross area where the first signal lines cross with the connecting lines interposing an insulating layer. The second signal lines and the connecting lines are pulled out from the active area to a signal supply source provided at outside of the active area without detouring in a peripheral region of the display panel.

Provided is a liquid crystal display including an array substrate with first to third comb-shaped electrodes on a main surface thereof, a counter substrate with a common electrode that faces the first to third comb-shaped electrodes on a main surface thereof, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the array and counter substrates, and a color filter supported by one of the array and counter substrates and including first to third coloring layer facing the first to third comb-shaped electrodes, respectively, wherein the first comb-shaped electrode is different in shape and/or orientation from the second and third comb-shaped electrodes.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate, a columnar spacer formed on the first substrate and exhibiting light shielding properties, an alignment film formed to covet at least a part of the columnar spacer, a second substrate arranged to face the first substrate with a predetermined gap provided by the columnar spacer between the first and second substrates, and a liquid crystal material arranged within the gap. The columnar spacer is tapered in the forward direction as viewed from the first substrate in that portion of the columnar spacer which is positioned closest to the second substrate and has the largest diameter portion in the region other than that region of the columnar spacer which is positioned closest to the first substrate.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

A flat panel display device comprises a pair of substrates facing each other, a spacer, made of photosensitive material, for providing a gap between the pair of substrates, and a display medium arranged in the gap. At least one of the pair of substrates has a lightproof region including a linear portion. The spacer is arranged in the linear portion of the lightproof region. The spacer has a shape a longitudinal axis of which extends along the linear portion and which has a recessed portion narrower than the linear portion.

Flat panel display device and method for manufacturing the same

A display device includes a light guiding fixed electrode portion formed of a transparent material for guiding light incident from an exterior to the surface portion having a transparent conductive layer and then emitting the light, a flexible conductive light shielding plate arranged to face the transparent conductive layer of the light guiding fixed electrode portion and having one end fixed to pass the emitted light therethrough, and an electrostatic force generating circuit for applying a potential difference between the conductive light shielding plate and the transparent conductive layer to generate electrostatic force between the transparent conductive layer and the conductive light shielding plate, wherein the conductive light shielding plate is displaced according to the electrostatic force with one end thereof set as an axis to shield the surface portion of the light guiding fixed electrode portion when the potential difference is applied between the conductive light shielding plate and the transparent conductive layer.

Display device

A liquid crystal display device of this invention includes a substrate having a pixel electrode on one major surface, a liquid crystal layer including first and second liquid crystal microcapsule layers sequentially stacked on the pixel electrode of the substrate, and a counter electrode formed on the liquid crystal layer. Each of the first and second liquid crystal microcapsule layers contains a plurality of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules each formed by encapsulating a liquid crystal material containing a liquid crystal compound and a dichroic dye with a transparent film. The major axes of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules contained in the first liquid crystal microcapsule layer are aligned in a first direction. The major axes of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules contained in the second liquid crystal microcapsule layer are aligned in a second direction different from the first direction.

The liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate, a second substrate opposite to the first substrate, a plurality of switching elements formed on a face of the first substrate, which is opposite to the second substrate, a common electrode formed on a face of the second substrate, the face being opposite to the first substrate, a plurality of liquid crystal layers stacked on the second substrate to hold the common electrode between the layers and the second substrate, and arranged between the first and second substrates a plurality of projection electrodes selectively formed on the liquid crystal layers and a plurality of pixel electrode each formed on a corresponding one of the liquid crystal layers. The pixel electrodes respectively formed between a corresponding couple of the liquid crystal layers are connected to a corresponding one of the switching elements formed on the first substrate through one or several of the protrusion electrode/electrodes. The several protrusion electrodes are brought into contact at each of the boundaries of the adjacent liquid crystal layers and connected in cascade.

Liquid crystal display device using stacked layers

A novel display device suitable as a portable display device is disclosed. The device includes a pair of substrates and a light modulation layer sandwiched between the substrates. A functional gel is adapted to be deformed by an electric field applied between a pair of electrodes interposed between the substrates, thereby regulating the light incident on the light modulation layer. A high contrast, a high reflectance and a high light utilization are achieved without regard to the angle of visibility.

This invention provides a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display, including the steps of forming an orientation film on a major surface of each of first and second substrates, performing an orientation treatment for the orientation films, performing an orientation relaxation treatment for a portion of the orientation film of each of the first and second substrates, thereby forming a first region and a second region whose orientation degree is smaller than the orientation degree of the first region, arranging the first and second substrates so that the first and second regions of the first substrate and the second and first regions of the second substrate oppose each other, respectively, and that a liquid crystal material has a splay deformation, and injecting the liquid crystal material between the first and second substrates thus arranged to oppose each other.

Method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display including performing

A liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal cell including a pair of substrates each having an alignment film on the surface thereof, and a liquid crystal filled in a space between the substrates, which is provided with a plurality of alignment regions, each region having the direction of alignment or the rise direction of liquid crystal molecule different from another region within a display region. The alignment film comprises a polyimide having a glass transition point of 300.degree. to 400.degree. C., a skeleton having no two-revolution axis, non-conjugated carbon occupying 10 to 60% of the total number of carbon excluding carbon atoms directly connected to imido group, a relative dielectric constant of 4 to 7 at a frequency of 1kH and at a temperature of 20.degree. C., or an imidization degree of not less than 90%, or a polyimide obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic acid di-anhydride with a di-amine compound, or a polyimide obtained by imidizing a polyimide, the tetracarboxylic acid di-anhydride moiety being prohibited of the free rotation thereof.

A reflective direct-view type display device including a first substrate having two major surfaces and electrode provided on a first major surface, a second substrate having two major surfaces and color filter layers and pixel electrodes provided on a first major surface, a light-scattering medium interposed between the first and second substrates positioned with the electrode opposes the pixel electrodes, and at least one color filter layer provided on the first major surface of the first substrate and apposing at least one of the color filter layers provided on the first major surface of the second substrate. The display can produce high-luminance colors, by using external light at high efficiency and with a low consumption of electric power.
