An outboard engine includes a buoyant member (). The buoyant member has concavities (L,R;L,R) formed in at least one side thereof. A plurality of outboard engines is mounted in parallel on the stem, and the concavities prevent interference with the other adjacent outboard engines when any of the outboard engines are tilted up.

A boat propulsion engine includes a buoyant member () disposed on a case body that houses a drive shaft () in order to lift the stern. The buoyant member has a lower surface () that slopes downward in the rearward direction.

A boat propulsion engine () comprises a main body () that extends substantially vertically in relation to a hull (Si), a lift generator () disposed in a rear portion of the main body (), and supporting bodies () that support the lift generator () on the main body (). The lift generator () has a surface () that extends transversely relative to the main body () and that is located behind at least the main body (). The supporting bodies () extend backward from the main body () to the lift generator () in a single vertical direction relative to a surface () of the lift generator ().

In a boat-propelling machine for attachment to a boat hull (), an outer wall unit () is fixedly provided on a body of the machine for covering part of a cylindrical structural body () that is formed of metal alloy and positioned so as to be at least above a draft line during planning of the boat, and a lift force generation device () is provided on the outer vertical wall unit.

A marine propulsion apparatus includes an anti-cavitation plate on a casing that supports a propeller. A lift generation plate, which generates lift during propulsion, is disposed at a position rearward of the casing and above the anti-cavitation plate and extends in a width direction of a hull. The lift generation plate is mounted on the casing via a stay.

An outboard engine comprises a power source inside a power source compartment. The power source room is formed by an upper cover and an undercover. A buoyant body is disposed outside the power source compartment, and has a lower surface wall in a position that is lower than the undercover. The buoyant body is provided separately from the upper cover.

An oil-cooled engine assembly is provided for cooling lubricating oil, which has lubricated movable parts of an engine and subsequently recirculating cooled lubricating oil to the movable parts. The engine assembly includes a lubricating oil pump contained in the engine, and a hollow frame body which supports the engine. The hollow frame body has an oil passage through which lubricating oil flows. The lubricating oil pump is connected to the oil passage. Lubricating oil, which has lubricated the movable parts of the engine is air cooled with the frame body. Cooled lubricating oil is circulated again to the movable parts of the engine.

Oil-cooled engine assembly

A center frame fixed to a lower end of a swivel shaft of an outboard engine system by a bolt includes a swivel shaft extension extending downwards from the lower end of the swivel shaft , and a core metal which extends laterally from a lower end of the swivel shaft extension and has a lower mount rubber integrally baked thereto. The lower mount rubber is restrained on a rear surface of the extension case . Thus, the distance between an upper mount rubber mounted at an upper portion of the swivel shaft and the lower mount rubber mounted at a lower portion of the swivel shaft can be increased without downward extension of the swivel shaft itself to enhance the anti-vibration effect, while avoiding an increase in extra weight and an increase in cost.

Anti-vibration supporting structure for an outboard engine system

In an outboard engine system, an inertia force a generated longitudinally by a piston is countervailed by an inertia force b generated by a crankshaft , and inertia forces c and d subsidiarily laterally generated vibrate a body of the outboard engine system laterally about a phantom center point C of vibration. At this time, an elastomeric member resiliently supporting the system body on a hull has a rigidity in a tangent direction (in the direction of L ) about the phantom center point C of vibration, which is set to be lower than a rigidity in a radial direction (in the direction of L ) about the phantom center point C of vibration. Therefore, the lateral vibration is reduced effectively due to the lower rigidity of the elastomeric member . Thrusts e and f generated by a propeller and acting in a longitudinal direction (in the direction of L ) are transmitted to the hull through the elastomeric member . However, the rigidity of the elastomeric member in the longitudinal direction is set to be higher and hence, the thrusts e and f can be transmitted effectively to the hull.

Outboard engine system

An outboard engine assembly for use on a boat includes an engine having a substantially vertical crankshaft and a pair of banks of vertically juxtaposed horizontal cylinders, the banks being arranged in a V shape, the cylinders of the banks having axes angularly spaced from each other by an angle of 90.degree. or smaller. The outboard engine assembly has a propeller operatively connected to a downwardly extending vertical shaft coupled to the crankshaft. The engine and the vertical shaft is accommodated in a case assembly. The engine and the case assembly are installed on the hull of the boat by upper and lower support members. Vibroisolating rubber dampers are disposed between the boat hull and the upper and lower support members for isolating vibrations from the engine from the boat hull.

Outboard engine assembly

A vibration-proof power take-off device for an engine includes a resilient support device for carrying the engine on a support, and a displacement absorbing joint for connecting an output shaft of the engine to a power take-off member. The displacement absorbing joint has a first joint member connected to the output shaft, a second joint member connected to the power take-off member, and a resilient member for resiliently interconnecting the joint members. The first joint member includes a first hub having radially projecting first transmitting fins and the second joint member includes a second hub concentrically surrounding the first hub and having radially projecting second transmitting fins. The intermediate member has intermediate fins opposed to the first and second fins in a rotational direction. Opposed surfaces of the intermediate fins and the first and second fins are interconnected through the resilient member. The joint members and the intermediate fins are disposed concentrically, and the entire joint can be made compact.

The characteristic data for determining the characteristics of the transfer functions (for example, sigmoid functions) of the neurons of the hidden layer and the output layer (the gradients of the sigmoid functions) of a neural network are learned and corrected in a manner similar to the correction of weighting data and threshold values. Since at least one characteristic data which determines the characteristics of the transfer function of each neuron is learned, the transfer function characteristics can be different for different neurons in the network independently of the problem and/or the number of neurons, and be optimum. Accordingly, a learning with high precision can be performed in a short time.

A joint structure joins an outboard engine assembly to a boat hull. The outboard engine assembly has an engine, a case, a propeller rotatably supported on the case and drivable by the engine. The joint structure includes an attachment adapted to be coupled to the boat hull, the case having an inner surface defining an inner housing region, and elastic mount mechanism accommodated in the inner housing region for elastically supporting the case to the attachment. The elastic mount mechanism comprises a support member coupled to the attachment, and an elastic member disposed on the support member, the elastic member being elastically deformable from partial abutment to full abutment against a portion of the inner surface of the case in response to an increase in compressive forces which are applied between the case and the attachment when the engine is in operation. For example, the portion of the inner surface may include a flat inner surface substantially normal to the direction in which the compressive forces are applied, the elastic member having an outer surface facing the flat inner surface and having a plurality of protrusions which are elastically deformable from partial abutment to full abutment against the flat inner surface when the compressive forces are increased.

Joint structure with elastic mount

A speed reduction device for transmitting the rotation of a drive shaft to a driven shaft in a speed reducing manner. An eccentric cam is securely mounted on the drive shaft and has a central axis eccentrically offset from a central axis of the drive shaft, and the driven shaft is rotatably mounted in eccentrically offset relation from the drive shaft by an eccentricity equal to that of the eccentric cam. The driven shaft includes a pair of opposed surface portions which are adapted to rotate in a normally clamping and circumscribing relation with respect to the eccentric cam. When the speed reduction device is used in an intake and exhaust valve timing and actuating device of an internal combustion engine, a crank shaft serves as the drive shaft, while a follower cam associated with intake and exhaust valves serves as the driven shaft.
