An image-forming apparatus includes a light-irradiation unit configured to move a spot of laser light on a surface of a photosensitive member at a non-constant scanning velocity in a main scanning direction to form a latent image on the photosensitive member, an image data correcting unit configured to correct a length in the main scanning direction of image data by inserting one or more image data pieces into the image data, the number of the image data pieces increasing as the scanning velocity increases, and/or extracting one or more image data pieces from the image data, the number of the image data pieces increasing as the scanning velocity decreases, and a brightness correcting unit configured to correct a brightness of the laser light so that an emission brightness increases as the scanning velocity increases and/or the emission brightness decreases as the scanning velocity decreases.

A light scanning apparatus includes a light source, a deflector configured to deflect a light flux from the light source, and an imaging optical system configured to guide the light flux deflected at the deflector onto a scanned surface. The imaging optical system consists of a single imaging optical element, wherein, on the optical axis of the imaging optical system, the conditions 0.15&#x2266;T2/Sk&#x2266;0.3 and 0.03&#x2266;d/K&#x2266;0.08 are satisfied. A condition 0.3&#x2266;B&#x2266;0.6 is satisfied at a condensing position Y where a scanning angle &#x3b8; is greatest, when the condensing position Y in the main scanning direction on the scanned surface of the light flux deflected at the scanning angle &#x3b8; by the deflector is expressed by Y=(K/B)&#xd7;tan(B&#xd7;&#x3b8;).

The optical scanning apparatus according to the present invention includes a deflection unit that deflects a light flux, a plurality of incident optical systems that cause light fluxes to enter the deflection unit at different incident angles in a sub-scanning cross section, and an imaging optical system that guides a plurality of light fluxes deflected by the deflection unit onto a scanned surface. The imaging optical system has a first optical functional portion and a second optical functional portion arranged in a sub-scanning direction and connected to each other by a connecting portion. In a plane including the connecting portion, at least incident surfaces or exit surfaces of the first and second optical functional portions overlap with each other at least at one point.
