In a reproducing apparatus adapted to reproduce data recorded on a holographic recording medium, a reference light generator generates reference light for illuminating the holographic recording medium, and a coherent light generator generates coherent light having an intensity greater than the absolute value of a minimum amplitude of a reproduced image and having a phase equal to the phase of the reproduced image. An image signal acquisition unit senses the reproduced image produced by illuminating the holographic recording medium with the reference light and the coherent light, and acquires an image signal based on the reproduced image. A square root calculation unit calculates the square root of each of values constituting the image signal. A removal unit removes the component of the coherent light from the calculated square root, whereby the data recorded on the holographic recording medium is correctly reproduced.

A recording apparatus performing at least recording with respect to a hologram recording medium is disclosed. The recording medium includes: a light emitting means for emitting light to be radiated with respect to the hologram recording medium set at a prescribed position; a spatial light modulation means configured to be able to generate reference light and signal light to be radiated to the hologram recording medium by performing light intensity modulation to incident light in the unit of pixels; a phase modulation means for performing phase modulation to radiated light from the spatial light modulation means; and an optical system configured to guide light emitted from the light emitting means with respect to the hologram recording medium through the spatial modulation means and the phase modulation means.

A hologram recording apparatus includes a rotating mechanism for rotating a hologram recording medium, a first light source for emitting first laser light, a modulator for modulating the intensity of the emitted first laser light to record a hologram on the hologram recording medium, a second light source for emitting second laser light with which a predetermined signal pattern is read from the rotating hologram recording medium, and a controller operable to exert control on the basis of the read signal pattern so that the intensity of the first laser light is modulated by the modulator while the first laser light is being oscillated and so that a beam spot of the first laser light is applied onto the hologram recording medium in periods in which the relative velocity between the target recording region and the beam spot becomes almost zero.

A tape cartridge housing a magnetic tape includes an auxiliary storage medium having a storage unit in which to store the recording medium information such as design parameters or the number of times of recording and/or reproduction of the magnetic tape, and a transmission/reception unit for effecting inputting/outputting of the recording medium information with the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The auxiliary storage medium is mounted so that the transmission/reception unit is exposed to the outside through an opening provided in a lateral surface of the main cartridge body unit not obstructing the loading of the magnetic tape, that is in a surface of the main cartridge body unit other than its front surface as an inserting end of the tape cartridge into the inside of the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The auxiliary storage medium has an antenna constituting the transmission/reception unit for inputting/outputting the recording medium information with the recording and/or reproducing apparatus. It is through this antenna that the power is supplied from the auxiliary recording and/or reproducing unit provided on the recording and/or reproducing apparatus in accordance with a non-contact system transmitting the recording medium information and the power overlaid on the recording medium information.

A tape cassette includes an MIC (Memory-In-Cassette) installed inside the center section of the label surface, and a case capable of housing the magnetic tape. A switch circuit board is installed in the front part of the chassis parallel to the inner side of the front panel, and a communications antenna is mounted on this switch circuit board. When the cassette is loaded in the chassis from the cassette insertion slot, the MIC is in proximity to the front of the communications antenna and wireless communications between the antenna and MIC are carried out with high accuracy. By efficiently installing an MIC in a tape cassette having little excess space such as DAT (digital audio tape recorder) cassettes, an increase in the number of parts and the number of assembly processes can be avoided and highly accurate reading and writing of control information on the MIC in the cassette can be performed.

Information storage device having tape cassette with noncontact memory and antenna

A tape driving apparatus which operates corresponding to the individual tape cassette loaded therein. A tape driving unit is included for running a magnetic tape included in the tape cassette and for recording/reproducing information to/from the magnetic tape. A memory driving unit is provided for reading/writing management information from/to a memory by implementing a predetermined communicating process. The memory is located at the tape cassette and stores the management information for managing a recording/reproducing operation to/from the magnetic tape. Identification information of the tape cassette is detected from the memory. A knowledge information memory stores knowledge information formed of operation specifying information and conditional information corresponding to the identification information of the tape cassette. The conditional information is evaluated based on the identification information. A controller controls a predetermined operation corresponding to the operation specifying information based on a result of the evaluation.

Tape driving apparatus

A method and apparatus for controlling a recording medium in which a recording medium is recognized by reading identification information from a non-contact-type memory of the recording medium via a remote memory interface. An identifier corresponding to the recognized recording medium is set and given to the non-contact-type memory of the recording medium via the remote memory of the recording medium interface. An operation on the non-contact-type memory is performed with identification of the recording medium by using a command including the identifier.
