The invention provides a machining center for machining a workpiece by moving a grinding wheel and the workpiece relative to each other in the X, Y and Z directions. The machining center has a main spindle for removably mounting a grinding wheel, a spindle head for rotationally supporting the main spindle, a table for mounting the workpiece, a column for movably supporting the spindle head, and tool dressing means having a dresser spindle, provided over the spindle head to move in the vertical direction toward and away from the grinding wheel mounted to the main spindle, for mounting a dresser for truing or dressing the outer peripheral surface of the grinding wheel.

Machine tool system and machining method

To provide a compact size machine tool free from the inconveniences inherent to the prior art and excellent in the collection and removal of chips or the like, there is provided a channel 39 in a central portion of the bed 3 directly beneath the table 21 and extending parallel to the table moving direction; a chip conveyor 47 being provided inside the channel 39; on both sides with respect to the channel 39, a pair of opposite slopes 51, 51 for collection of chips as well as telescopic covers 53, 53 extensible or contractible in accordance with the displacement of the table 21 being provided so as to cover a pair of guide rails 13, 13 which extend parallel to each other along the Z direction.

Machine tool

An improved device and method for use in machining a workpiece, which includes a tool body with a machining tool having two machining surface, wherein one of the machining surfaces is being selectively movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A supporting mechanism is sized and configured to substantially restrict movement of the machining tool relative to the tool body while the one machining surface is positioned in the retracted position. Preferably, the supporting mechanism includes an interior surface having a frustoconical-shaped tapered configuration, and the reciprocable machining surface has an engageable surface sized and configured to be frictionally engaged against the interior surface. In a preferred embodiment, the interior surface has an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the tool body from about 20 to about 50 degrees, and more preferably about 40 degrees. A drive mechanism can be disposed in the tool body for selectively and quickly moving the machining tool from its retracted or supported position for movement to its extended position.

Machining method and multi-function tool

A rolling-contact type bearing for rotatably supporting a spindle of a machine is cooled by a temperature controlled liquid lubricant supplied to an internal cavity or passageways provided in the spindle, and circulated toward the bearing so that the temperature controlled liquid lubricant comes into direct or indirect contact with the bearing in the order of the inner race, the rolling element, and the outer recess, to thereby apply a cooling and lubricating effect to those elements. The lubricant after cooling is collected to a lubricant-temperature controller to be subjected to a temperature control treatment for reuse as a coolant. An air seal is applied to a lubricant entrance of the spindle where the temperature controlled lubricant is supplied from a lubricant supply member into the spindle, to thereby prevent a leakage of the lubricant toward the exterior.
