A non-volatile storage device according to an embodiment of the present technology includes a storage section and a calculation section. The storage section includes a plurality of block sections each including a plurality of page sections into which data can be written independent of each other, the plurality of block sections being capable of collectively deleting the data written in the plurality of page sections. The calculation section calculates, on the basis of information about write conditions of the plurality of page sections included in the storage section, candidate addresses that are candidates of logical addresses of the data to be written into the plurality of page sections.

A semiconductor memory device and method of erasing data are disclosed. In one example, a semiconductor memory device includes a block including a plurality of pages and a controller that controls writing, erasing, and reading of data. Each of the pages includes a plurality of memory cells each being changeable to a number of states. In a case of erasing only a partial page of the plurality of pages, the controller overwrites the partial page with predetermined data that causes state change only by one stage.

A storage apparatus includes a flash memory, a second memory for storing an address translation table, and a control section. The flash memory is formed of multiple pages, each having a spare area, and data are stored on a page-by-page basis. The control section has the functions of: saving the table to the flash memory; when writing/updating data, storing the user data, recording, in the table, a correspondence between a logical page address and an address of a page in which the data is stored, and storing information for identifying the corresponding logical page address in the spare area of the page; when the apparatus is started, detecting pages to which data was written after the most recent saving of the table; and scanning the spare area of each page detected and reproducing a state of the table as updated after the most recent saving to reconstruct the table.

Embodiments of the invention reduce the error rate of a read error that is caused by a spacing interval between a write head and a read head, which are formed on a slider. In one embodiment, a write head writes user data, which is placed at a position, on a magnetic disk when a read head is placed at a target position in accordance with a head spacing interval and yaw angle. DHO adjustment data is written at a second position, which is obtained by subjecting the read head to DHO correction in order to read the user data written at the target position. When the user data is to be read, a processor reads the DHO adjustment data, changes the read head position to the first position, and controls the operation of a magnetic disk drive to read the user data.
