An attachment configured to be attached to a game controller with a camera is provided. The attachment includes a housing and an operation portion in the housing. The housing includes a support portion which supports the game controller such that a direction of shooting of the camera is oriented to the inside of the housing. The operation portion has a movable portion in the housing, a position of the movable portion being changed in accordance with a pressing operation onto the operation portion, and at least one of a shape of and a pattern on the movable portion viewed from the camera being changed in accordance with a rotation operation onto the operation portion.

Attachment and game system

An example information processing device includes a housing and a camera for capturing an image in a side surface direction of the housing. The information processing device calculates, based on a camera image obtained by the camera, a three-dimensional position of an object (e.g., a hand of a user) included in the camera image, and performs an information process in accordance with the three-dimensional position. Note that the information processing device may specify a shape of the object based on the camera image to perform an information process in accordance with the three-dimensional position and the shape of the object. Then, it is possible to realize various inputs using a captured image.

An exemplary portable electronic apparatus includes a display provided at a front surface, and an infrared camera and a distance measuring sensor which are provided at a side surface. When a user holds the portable electronic apparatus with their left hand and makes a gesture with their right hand, the portable electronic apparatus analyzes an image from the infrared camera to detect the gesture made by the user. The portable electronic apparatus displays an image corresponding to a result of detection of the gesture on the display.

An exemplary portable electronic apparatus includes a display provided at a front surface thereof and an infrared camera provided at a side surface thereof. A contour image indicating a contour of a hand of a user included in an image captured by the infrared camera, and a guide frame image indicating a region smaller than an imaging range of the infrared camera, are displayed on the display in perspective form such that the images are obliquely viewed images. Accordingly, it is made easy for the user to recognize the position of the hand in a side surface direction of the portable electronic apparatus, and thus the user can put their hand within a range suitable for a gesture input.

A game apparatus includes a hand-held housing, a display screen, and a gyro sensor for detecting an angular velocity of a rotation around an axis perpendicular to the display screen. When the player rotates the game apparatus around the axis, a rotation angle of the housing is calculated based on the detected angular velocity. The display screen displays a game image including a rotational image rotated according to the rotation angle and an irrotational image controlled independently of the rotation angle. The rotational image is controlled so as to rotate in a direction opposite to the rotation angle and by the same degree of angle as the rotation angle, for example. It thus appears to the player that the rotational image stands still and the irrotational image makes a rotational movement. The progress of the game is changed according to a result of the determination.
