A hinge unit can suitably be used for a portable electronic apparatus such as a portable telephone set comprising a main body and a swing member to be secured to the main body by means of hinges such that the swing member may be folded on the main body for the convenience of storage when not in use and opened from the main body by a desired angle and held to the open position for use. The hinge unit has a simple configuration and hence is compact and lightweight and manufactured at low cost. With each hinge of the hinge unit, a cam shaft 14 is pushed into a spring 13 rigidly secured to the main body 1 along an edge thereof such that the cam shaft 14 becomes axially unreleaseable along axial direction X1. The cam shaft 14 has a protruding section 14g to be fitted into one of the knuckle-shaped end 11b of the swing member 11. As the cam shaft 14 is pushed along axial direction X2, the resilient tips 13a, 13a of the spring 13 ride over the tapered section 14d of the cam shaft 14 and, once the pressure for pushing the cam shaft 14 is released, the protruding section 14 is moved back to the normal position by the resilient force of the resilient tips 13a, 13a, where the cam shaft 14 is turned with the bearing section 11c of the knuckle-shaped end 11b. The resilient tips 13a, 13a pinch the tip-holding areas 14f, 14f of the cam section 14a to hold the swing member 11 in the open position so that the hinge unit does not require the use of two spring members as in the case of comparable known hinge unit.

Elongate holes (34, 35) are formed respectively in a front end portion and in a rear end portion of a link member (30). One pair of engagement pins (41, 42) are movably pierced through the elongate holes (34, 35), respectively. A through-hole 52 is formed in a front end portion of a control member (50), and an elongate hole (53) is formed in the rear end portion. An engagement pin (41) is pierced through the through-hole (52). The control member (50) is pivotably linked to the link member (30) through the engagement pin (41). The engagement pin (42) is movably pierced through the elongate hole (53). The elongate hole (35) is inclined at the same angle as the engagement recess (17), The elongate hole (53) is formed in a horizontal posture.

A damper for a flapdoor that does not show any damping effect when its movable shaft of the damper is rotated with the door in one sense whereas it effectively damps the rotary movement of the flapdoor when the movable shaft is rotated with the door in the other sense, wherein a one-way clutch for engaging or disengaging the movable shaft with a movable member depending on the sense of rotation of the movable shaft to cause a viscous shearing drag in the viscous fluid contained in the damper and a power source constitute so many integral parts of a coil spring. A damper for a flapdoor having such an arrangement can have a simplified configuration as compared with a damper provided with a separate coil spring as power source and a separate one-way clutch and therefore can be realized with reduced dimensions. Moreover, since such a one-way clutch can be prepared from a coil spring without requiring any additional processes and by simply engaging a portion of the coil spring with the movable member, the rest of the coil spring functioning as power source, the damper can be realized at a significantly reduced cost.

Damper for a flapdoor using viscous fluid

A device for detachably and pivotally connecting a pair of objects such as a toilet seat and lid to a toilet bowl. The device includes a receiving member fixedly mounted on the toilet bowl and a main body connected with the toilet seat and lid. The main body includes a spring biased hook assembly engageable with the receiving member and being manually released from engagement with the receiving member to enable separation of the body and receiving member to thereby enable separation of the toilet seat and lid from the toilet bowl.

According to the invention, there is provided an ingenuously contrived mechanism for controlling the travel of a movable structural member along rails comprising a pair of traveler devices removably engaged with the respective rails and a pair of travel controller that dampen the force pulling the movable member back into the fixed member. With such devices, the movable member can be easily separated from and returned to the fixed member that houses it without requiring any particular operation. Such a mechanism is particularly suited for a cabinet drawer.

Mechanism for controlling the travel of a structural member

According to the invention, there is provided an ingenuously contrived mechanism for controlling the travel of a movable structural member along rails comprising a pair of traveler devices removably engaged with the respective rails. With such devices, the movable member can be easily separated from the fixed member that houses it. Such a mechanism is particularly suited for a cabinet drawer.

A door closer which comprises a damper having a body case including an arm fixed to a door, a rotational shaft formed in the body case, a pair of chambers filled with high viscous liquids, a pair of rotary blades respectively having passages with check valves on the rotational shaft, the rotary blades being rotated together with a rotational shaft by a sub case fixed with a sub arm against a return spring at the time of opening the door, the door being effected by the resistance force of the high viscous liquid against the closing door, a stationary plate fixed to the body case, an intermediate plate so engages as to be rotatable at a predetermined angle against the return spring, a movable plate so engaged with the sub case as to be rotatable together with the sub case, a plurality of rotary connectors respectively movably engaged with a plurality of through holes on the rotating circumferential line of the intermediate plate, and an angle clutch formed with recesses to be engaged with the rotary connectors corresponding to the through holes of the rotary connectors. Thus, the door closer can provide a locking state of power accumulated by a return spring at a predetermined door opening angle and a freely stopping state.

According to the invention, there is provided a door hinge comprising a spring that plays the role of both a torsion spring and a compression spring, wherein its resilient force is used for axially pressing a movable cam against a matching fixed cam it comprises and thereby facilitating the opening and closing motion of the door with which it is used by giving said cams such specific configurations that the spring accelerates the opening motion of the door from a given angular position of the door and locks the door at a particular open position and at a closed position. Since a door using such a hinge that comprises a spring whose resilient force constantly biases the door to open can be either opened to any desired angle or closed and sustained there under a locked condition when the rotary shaft of the hinge is firmly connected to the door, it can be used for a flap door or another vertically rotatable door such as a toilet lid to sustain the door to an open position under a locked condition even if the resilient force of the spring is nullified at that position and the door is liable to be pushed back by an obstacle such as a wire located behind the toilet assembly comprising the lid. Therefore, the door is protected against any turning effort and other forces which are unintentionally applied to the door.

A cabinet lid stay is provided including a pair of arms pivotally coupled with each other for relative angular displacement at first ends of the arms and the second end of one arm is pivotally connected to a stationery cabinet portion through utilization of a damper construction while the second end of the second arm is pivotally connected to the cabinet lid through utilization of a pivot connector including a twist lock connection with a fixture mounted to the cabinet lid, the twist lock connection between the second arm and the fixture defining a relative rotation pivot axis of release therefore disposed in the plane of the arms. In addition, the first arm and mounting therefore to the stationery cabinet portion includes coacting structure by which pivoting movement of the first arm relative to the stationery cabinet portion may be adjustably limited to thereby limit the angular positioning of the cabinet lid when in its full open position.
