Provided is a timing chain cover that allows suppressing vibration transmission. A timing chain cover of the present disclosure houses a timing chain transmitting a rotative force of a crankshaft to a camshaft in one end side of an internal combustion engine. The timing chain cover includes a chain cover main body and a damping resin layer formed on an abutment surface of the chain cover main body. The abutment surface abuts on an internal combustion engine main body. The damping resin layer contains a heat resistant resin and a damping filler. The damping filler converts a vibration energy into a heat energy.

A sliding member capable of improving friction characteristics under an environment of a lubricant containing Mo, and a production method therefor, is provided. The sliding member contains a sliding portion formed of a metallic material having a Ti-containing thermally sprayed coating on a surface layer part of the sliding portion. The sliding member slides under the environment of the lubricant containing Mo as an additive, in which active Ti exposed on a surface by sliding accelerates decomposition reaction of the additive contained in the lubricant to form a molybdenum disulfide-containing low-friction coating having low friction on the surface of the sliding portion.

In an amorphous carbon film of a sliding member, provided that a number of nitrogen atoms each singly bonded to three carbon atoms is A, and a number of nitrogen atoms each singly and doubly bonded to two carbon atoms, respectively, is B, a value A/B of the amorphous carbon film obtained through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis is 10 to 18. The method includes irradiating the surface of the substrate with nitrogen ion beams and irradiating a carbon target with electron beams, thereby forming an amorphous carbon film on the surface of the substrate while vapor-depositing a part of the carbon target onto the surface of the substrate. The output of the electron beams that irradiate the carbon target is 30 to 50 W.

A sliding member includes: a metal substrate; an undercoat primer layer that is formed on a sliding surface of the metal substrate; and a resin layer that is formed on the undercoat primer layer, in which the resin layer is formed by curing a composition layer containing a bifunctional alicyclic epoxy and a polymerization initiator.
