A liquid crystal display device for displaying video data having a detection circuit for detecting a luminance distribution based on video data which is inputted, the luminance distribution being indicative of generation frequency of gradations in each of divided region which includes a plurality of gradations. The display device includes a determination circuit for determining at least one of a plurality of divided regions of higher generation frequency of gradation than that of other divided regions based on the luminance distribution, a correction circuit for correcting the video data so as to make a luminance characteristic of the at least one of the plurality of divided regions of higher generation frequency of gradation more abrupt than a luminance characteristic of the other divided regions, and a liquid crystal display panel for displaying the corrected video data. A width of the divided region is changeable.

Liquid crystal display device for displaying video data

A display device includes a display panel having display elements, arranged in a matrix, a drain driver which supplies gradation voltages corresponding to image data to the display elements, a gate driver which scans lines of the display elements for supplying the gradation voltage, and a data generation circuit which divides image data for one frame into a plurality of pieces of sub-field image data in a time direction. The data generation circuit operates to convert one piece of sub-field image data into bright gradation data which has a higher brightness than the inputted image data which has been inputted, and to convert another piece of sub-field image data into dark gradation data which has a lower brightness than the inputted image data.

Display device including a data generating circuit to divide image data for one frame into a plurality of pieces of sub-field image data

A display device which includes a plurality of adjacent gate lines and drain lines disposed in a display area of the display device, and a plurality of pixels disposed in the display area, each of the plurality of pixels having a switching element coupled to a corresponding one of the plurality of adjacent gate lines and a corresponding one of the plurality of drain lines. During one frame period, the plurality of adjacent gate lines are selected, and thereby video signals are written into the plurality of pixels via the plurality of drain lines, and thereafter during the one frame period, the plurality of adjacent gate lines are selected, and thereby signals corresponding to blanking data are written into the plurality of pixels.

Display device having improved drive circuit and method of driving same

In a hold-type display device, such as a liquid crystal display device, so-called blurring which appears on a profile of a displayed animated image can be suppressed without degrading the brightness of the image. An image based on video data to be inputted to a display device is displayed for every frame period and, thereafter, the image is masked with a blanking image. Here, the ratio between an image display period of the video data and a blanking image display period in one frame period is adjusted, based on the number of pixel rows selected in a pixel array in response to a scanning clock for respective periods, the frequency of the scanning clock, and shortening of a horizontal period of display signal inputting to every pixel row with respect to a horizontal scanning period of the video data, whereby the image can be efficiently cancelled using the blanking image.

Display device

A matrix-type display device includes a data generating circuitfor multiple scans for inserting blanking data to image data for one frame period of an image, and a timing controlling circuitfor multiple scans for generating clocks used by a gate line drive circuitfor scanning lines of a display element arraysuch that the image data and the blanking data can be displayed in one frame period. Here, the gate line drive circuitsimultaneously scans multiple lines adjacent to each other as a bundle. According to this configuration, the larger and more complicated construction can be suppressed, which can also suppress the image deterioration due to blurred moving picture.

Matrix-type display device

The present invention includes: a liquid crystal panelon which is formed a matrix of a plurality of image elements; a correction circuitthat receives a video data gradation signal input, generates a correction signal for correcting luminance using a relationship defined by the gradation level from an input gradation for an (N&#x2212;1)-th frame and the gradation level from an input gradation for an N-th frame, and corrects the input gradation signal for the N-th frame using the correction signal; a data drivergenerating a write potential based on the corrected input gradation signal for the N-th frame and applies the potential to an image element; and a scan driver selecting an image element to which the write potential is applied.

Display device for displaying video data

The present invention includes a panel on which a plurality of pixels are located, a light-source for visualizing an image displayed on the plurality of pixels, a controlling circuit for controlling the light-source, and an image-signal tone characteristic controlling circuit. Moreover, the light-source controlling circuit has a function of repeating a period. Here, the period includes a 1st time-period during which an electric current having a 1st intensity is fed to the light-source, and a 2nd time-period during which an electric current having a 2nd intensity differing from the 1st intensity is fed to the light-source. The light-source controlling circuit controls the 1st time-period and the 2nd time-period in accordance with display information. Also, in accordance with the display information as well, the tone characteristic controlling circuit is controlled so that the excellent contrast will be always available.

Liquid crystal display apparatus

A fast-write, high picture-quality LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) compatible with a high-resolution, large-sized liquid crystal panel. An output amplifier circuit of a liquid crystal driver circuit includes an amplifier configuration, which functions as an amplifier that amplifies the predetermined gray-scale voltage for output and as an amplifier that buffers the predetermined gray-scale voltage and outputs with no amplification, and a circuit for switching the above two types of amplifiers. In each horizontal period, a liquid crystal panel is driven by the amplified output for a predetermined period and by the buffered output for the rest of the period. A precharge control circuit is provided to check whether the gray-scale voltage is to be amplified depending upon display data.

Liquid crystal driver circuit and LCD having fast data write capability

In a display device, a first drive circuit supplies one and another first signals to plural adjacent scanning signal lines during first and second time intervals in a frame period, respectively. During the first time interval, a second drive circuit generates a second voltage corresponding to video data and supplies the second voltage to pixels associated with the adjacent scanning signal lines supplied with the first signal, and during the second time interval, the second drive circuit generates and supplies a second voltage to ones of the pixels associated with the adjacent scanning signal lines supplied with the first signal such that the pixels associated with the adjacent scanning signal lines supplied with the first signal produce luminance lower than that produced during the first time interval.

A luminance characteristic of inputted video data is determined by input video image characteristic detection sections, and polygonal line point master data and polygonal line point correction data are calculated based on the luminance characteristic so as to provide a satisfactory display state using a microcomputer and are outputted to the polygonal line generation sections. The polygonal line point data determining the output gradation characteristic is calculated in polygonal point generation sections and outputted to inter-point gradation operation sections, and operation processing is conducted by using the polygonal point data and the inputted video data in the inter-point operation sections to determine the inter-point gradation and outputted to a display panel.

In a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel for displaying a tone in correspondence with a potential difference between a drain voltage and a common voltage, a drain driver circuit for generating the drain voltage corresponding to display data and applying the drain voltage to the liquid crystal panel, and a gate driver circuit for selecting a scanning line in the liquid crystal panel to which the drain voltage is applied, a power-supply circuit executes a comparative calculation of a reference common voltage and a feedback common voltage, then applying, to the liquid crystal panel, the common voltage obtained as a result of the comparative calculation, the reference common voltage whose potential level having been adjusted, the feedback common voltage is fedback from the liquid crystal panel.
