The invention relates to the construction of an in-vehicle magnetic disk drive and a case for holding the in-vehicle magnetic disk drive. The in-vehicle magnetic disk drive must meet a condition peculiar thereto requiring normal operations under severe temperature conditions. An environment of an excessively low temperature disturbs a normal information recording operation, while an environment of an excessively high temperature makes the retention of recorded information impossible. The case is provided with a cold insulator, a heat insulator, a heat insulating material and a temperature sensor and is set in a specific position. The operation of the magnetic disk drive at temperatures outside a predetermined temperature range is inhibited.

In a latch release apparatus and method, a latch mechanism holds an actuator with a high shock resistance. Two or more magnetic members are arranged in a latch component so as to concentrate a magnetic force for easy rotation of the latch component. The effect of the magnetic force in a direction perpendicular to the direction of rotation of the magnetic members becomes smaller, reducing the friction force at the rotational center of the latch.

In a latch mechanism that holds an actuator with a high shock resistance two or more magnetic members are arranged in a latch component, which generates a weaker attraction force but a more easy rotation of the latch component. The structure concentrates a magnetic force in order to rotate the latch component effectively. The effect of the magnetic force in a direction perpendicular to the direction of rotation of the magnetic members becomes smaller and a friction force at the rotation center of the latch is reduced.

A magnetic disk device wherein a member having and suspension thereof a natural frequency similar to that of a head is disposed on an opposite surface of a head arm having one head mounted thereto via a suspension. The outermost shape (profile when the member is projected in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the magnetic disk) of the member having the natural frequency equal to that of the head and suspension thereof is similar to that of the head and the suspension or does not swell out from the profile of the head and the suspension. The invention provides an improved mechanical apparatus having a driving mechanism for moving two movably contacting members relative to each other. A more effective operation is attained by further employment of a one-way clutch which is put into a coupled condition only when the relative displacement by the temperature-displacement converting means occurs in a predetermined direction but into a non-coupled condition when the relative movement is caused by the driving mechanism.
