A clutch drum includes a cylindrical drum body having a spline portion consisting of plural extruded angles and extruded channels formed by pressing, and plural pressed-out portions formed at the spline portion, one side wall of the pressed-out portions having a continuous shape without any rupture, the other side wall of the pressed-out portions being formed by half blanking of the clutch drum body so as to stop a snap ring threat.

A clutch drum includes a cylindrical drum body having a spline portion consisting of plural extruded angles and extruded channels formed by pressing, and plural pressed-out portions formed at the spline portion, one side wall of the pressed-out portions having a continuous shape without any rupture, the other side wall of the pressed-out portions being formed by half blanking of the clutch drum body so as to stop a snap ring thereat.

A press-formed clutch drum of an automatic transmission of which inner and outer cylindrical surfaces are respectively formed with a first series of splines and a second series of inverted splines. The first and second series of splines are alternatively arranged in a ring so that each adjacent two splines are spaced by an interposal of a connecting portion defined therebetween. Each of the first and second series of splines comprises a pair of raised portions projected radially from the major cylindrical body of the drum, and a depressed portion interposed between the paired raised portions to form a groove in the major cylindrical body. The raised portions of the first and second series of splines are respectively projected inwardly and outwardly with respect to the center axis of the cylindrical body. The connecting portion extends between one of the paired raised portions of the first series of splines and adjacent one of the paired raised portions of the second series of splines and has a radial cross section which is inclined with respect to an imaginary plane which contains both the center axis of the major cylindrical body and the middle portion of the connecting portion in cross-section.

A cylindrical clutch drum of a clutch for an automatic transmission is formed with a plurality of spline grooves by press forming. Each spline grooves consists of a series of groove portions arranged, end to end, in a line. The width and depth of each spline groove are increased in a stepwise manner, one groove portion after another, toward one groove end. Each groove portion is made by half-blanking with a die having a width corresponding to the width of the groove portion and a length corresponding to the length of the groove portion. Instead of the spline grooves, the clutch drum may be formed with axially extending openings made by blanking. In this case, the width of each opening is increased in a stepwise manner.

A pinion gear support carriage for a planetary gear arrangement in an automatic transmission includes a first lubrication conduit leading radially from a sun gear to the needle bearings of a plurality of pinion gear shafts. Pair of thrust washers between the pinion gear and the carriage frame have cut-outs at their centers that overlap to create subsidiary lubrication conduits between the first lubrication conduit and the needle bearings.

A clutch position selector valve for use with a transmission for an industrial vehicle. The selector valve selectively establishes communication between a fluid pressure source and a forward clutch chamber or a reverse clutch chamber. The selector valve comprises a valve body having an inlet port communicating with the pressure fluid source, a forward clutch port communicating with the forward clutch chamber, a reverse clutch port communicating with the reverse clutch port and a drain port communicating with a fluid reservoir, and a valve element selectively establishing communication between the inlet port and the forward or reverse clutch ports. The valve element is removably and reversibly disposed within the interior of the valve body and cooperates with a selector lever to shift the element between the forward and reverse positions. This reversible feature permits the operating lever to be located on either side of a steering column for convenience of operation.

Automatic transmission selector valve

A power transmission has a valve means capable of applying hydraulic pressure to forward and reverse drive clutches and first and second speed clutches corresponding to the position of shift lever. The valve means has a plurality of ports respectively corresponding to the forward and reverse drive clutches and the first and second clutches so that it reverse drive clutches and the first and second clutches so that it may vary the clutches to be applied the hydraulic pressure corresponding to the shift lever position. The valve means applies hydraulic pressure to either one of forward and reverse drive clutches and either one of first and second clutches while the vehicle being in driving mode.

Transmission for a working vehicle

In a wet type multiple disc clutch for automatic transmission, a series of driving discs or plates and driven plates rotate on a clutch hub of a hollow cylinder. This clutch hub is made by press forming, and has at least one cut portion with which inward projections formed in the driving plates are engaged so that the driving plates rotate together with the clutch hub. The clutch hub is further provided with an inwardly projecting annular barrier member fit in the internal circumference of the clutch hub for directing lubricating oil through the cut portion to the friction surfaces of the driving plates and the driven plates by preventing the oil from spreading away. For example, this barrier member may take the form of a snap ring retained in an annular groove formed in the internal circumference of the clutch hub, or a cylindrical member with an inward flange inserted into the clutch hub.

Wet type multiple disc clutch

A clutch drum for an automatic transmission features a large diameter portion in which a plurality of first slots define castle-like projections about one end thereon and a second set of slots which originate in the projections near the tops thereof and which extend to and terminate in an essentially frusto-conical portion which interconnects the large diameter portion and a small diameter portion containing a piston therein. The first slots serve to mount clutch discs within the drum while the second slots mount discs about the drum. The relatively wide castle-like projections allow the production of the drum from relatively light gauge sheet metal, which has adequate structural rigidity and a reduced maximum diameter.

A wet multiple disc clutch device for a vehicle transmission, comprising: a clutch drum functioning as a power input, the drum having a plurality of drive grooves formed on the inner surface of said clutch drum; a plurality of device plates each having a plurality of projections which engage with the drive grooves; a plurality of driven plates connected to the output shaft of the vehicle transmission and interleaved with the drive plates; a piston actuated by a hydraulic control pressure and adapted to press the drive and driven plates in contact; and a conical plate disposed between an endmost of the drive plates and the piston, having at least one projection formed on the outer circumference thereof the projection being engaged with the drive grooves on the clutch drum.

Wet multiple disc clutch device for a vehicle transmission

The present invention relates to an arrangement to cool oil used in a hydraulic control system of an automatic transmission for an industrial vehicle. The hydraulic control system includes an operating pressure feed line, a pressure regulator valve to regulate the magnitude of pressure in the operating pressure feed line, feed passage means for feeding oil under pressure from the operating pressure feed line to a hydrokinetic torque converter, exhaust passage means for exhausting the oil from the torque converter, a pressure maintaining valve disposed in the exhaust passage means to maintain the magnitude of pressure within the torque converter to a predetermined level, and a lubricating oil feed line communicating with the exhaust passage means via the pressure maintaining valve and also with a lubricating oil port of the pressure regulator valve via a flow restrictor. The lubricating oil feed lines have two portions which may be subjected to cooling. The two portions are parallel to each other and lead from said exhaust passage means and from said lubricating oil port, respectively.

Fluid actuated clutches are equipped with friction facings made of impregnated paper which operate in hydraulic fluid. Valves which control the transmission supply an increased amount of lubrication fluid to the friction facings when the clutches are dispositioned to be semi-engaged.

A clutch control valve serves to cut off the supply of hydraulic fluid pressure to a hydraulic operated clutch to render the clutch ineffective in response to the operation of a transmission for obtaining a change of gear ratio and serves similarly also when the brake is applied.
