In an upstream portion from a valve connecting surface that is formed in an opening of an intake port to a combustion chamber, an upper wall surface of the intake port continues from an upstream side end of the valve connecting surface and extends substantially straight and diagonally with respect to a ceiling surface on the intake port side. In addition, a cross-sectional shape of the portion in the intake port in a direction perpendicular to an axial direction of the intake port is a flat shape with an axis in a transverse direction being a long axis.

Internal combustion engine

An object of the invention is to provide an internal combustion engine that suppresses a blow-by phenomenon in an overlap period, while allowing for formation of a favorable swirl flow in a combustion chamber. In the internal combustion engine, a housing space is formed in an opening of an exhaust port to the combustion chamber to be more recessed in a cylinder head than an exhaust port-side ceiling surface. A bevel portion of an exhaust valve is placed in the housing space in a valve closed state of the exhaust valve. A valve contact surface is formed on an inner wall surface of the housing space. With regard to an effective passage width of an effective passage that is defined as a linear virtual passage extended from the combustion chamber through the housing space to inside of the exhaust port in a section extended from an intake port side to a bore wall surface side of an exhaust port side, the housing space is formed such that the effective passage width in any location in an intake side space is made smaller than the effective passage width in a corresponding location in an exhaust side space in a slight lifting state of the exhaust valve.

With regard to an internal combustion engine having a tumble flow formed in a cylinder, an object of the invention is to intensify the tumble flow. There is provided an internal combustion engine having a pent-roof type combustion chamber. In a predetermined area in the vicinity of an opening of an intake port to a combustion chamber, an upper wall surface of the intake port is extended approximately linearly while being inclined to an intake port-side ceiling surface more downward than a normal direction of the intake port-side ceiling surface in a side view. In a partial area in the predetermined area of the intake port, a distance between lateral wall surfaces on a left side and on a right side of the intake port is gradually increased toward downstream in a top view.

Air intake device for multi-cylinder internal combustion engine

In an intake device for an internal combustion engine, in which a valve body rotatable about a valve shaft is provided within an intake passage and by which an intake flow is controlled, the valve shaft is eccentric with a center of the valve body and is supported at a position eccentric with a center of the intake passage. When the valve body rotates, a half open state is formed from a fully closed state via a fully open state. The butterfly-type intake control valve are simply altered, so that the fully closed state, the fully open state, and the half open state can be formed and the vortex flow can be formed into the cylinder.

Intake device for internal combustion engine

An intake port structure of an internal combustion engine includes an intake port, a valve shaft provided in proximity to an inner wall of the intake port, and an airflow control valve having a proximal end which is pivotally supported on the valve shaft and a distal end which becomes part of the inner wall of the intake port when the airflow control valve is fully opened. The inner wall of the intake port has a recess into which the airflow control valve is partially or entirely retracted when the airflow control valve is fully opened. The recess has a flow smoothing portion located downstream of the proximal end.

Intake port structure of internal combustion engine

An intake port structure for an internal combustion engine according to the invention includes a valve shaft provided in an intake port; and an airflow control valve that is supported by the valve shaft at one end of the airflow control valve or at a position near the one end. A gap is formed between the airflow control valve and a wall surface of the intake port, which is positioned on one side of the valve shaft. Because intake airflow passes through the gap that is formed, the generation of a deposit is suppressed, and the locking of the airflow control valve is avoided.

In an intake system for an internal combustion engine wherein a partition plate is provided within an intake pipe in a longitudinal direction so that an inside is divided into a first intake passage, which is an upper side passage of the above described intake pipe, and a second intake passage, which is a lower side passage of the above described intake pipe, and an intake control valve for opening and closing the second intake passage is provided, the partition plate has holes which connect the first intake passage to the second intake passage and allow fuel on a lower surface of the partition plate to be sucked out to the first intake passage. When an intense tumble flow is created in the first intake passage in the intake system, an air flow toward the first intake passage from the second intake passage is created in the holes so that the fuel that adheres to the partition plate can be sucked out.

Intake system for internal combustion engine

A variable intake device includes an intake pipe through which air flows towards a combustion chamber of an engine, defining a first streamline at an intermediate portion of the pipe, a short-circuit pipe connected at the intermediate portion, defining a second streamline crossing the first streamline at the connected other end, and a valve arranged at the short-circuit pipe adjacent to the intermediate portion. The valve includes a valve body regulating air flow. When the valve allows air flow merging into the intake pipe from the short-circuit pipe, the valve body is positioned to extend in a direction between the extending direction of the first streamline indicated by arrow and the extending direction of the second streamline indicated by arrow. By such a configuration, a variable intake device having pressure loss at the intake path sufficiently reduced can be provided.

Variable intake device

An intake system of a V-engine provided with a surge tank arranged at a position higher than a cylinder head and divided in internal space into a top part and a bottom part. The surge tank has a plurality of intake tubes communicating the surge tank and intake ports, wherein intake tubes communicated with one cylinder bank of the V-engine are connected to the top part of the surge tank and intake tubes communicated with the other cylinder bank are connected to the bottom part of the surge tank. The surge tank is formed so that a front end of the top part is positioned further toward a rear side of the vehicle compared with the front end of the bottom part when the intake system is mounted to a V-engine mounted in the vehicle, whereby the height of the engine hood can be effectively lowered.

Intake system of multi-cylinder engine

An intake system of a V-engine provided with a surge tank arranged at a position higher than a cylinder head of the V-engine when attached to the V-engine and divided in internal space into a top part and a bottom part and a plurality of intake tubes communicating the surge tank and intake ports of the V-engine, wherein intake tubes communicated with one cylinder bank of the V-engine are connected to the top part of the surge tank and intake tubes communicated with the other cylinder bank are connected to the bottom part of the surge tank and the surge tank is formed so that a front end of the top part is positioned further toward a rear side of the vehicle compared with the front end of the bottom part when the intake system is mounted to a V-engine mounted in the vehicle, whereby the height of the engine hood can be effectively lowered.

An intake device includes an intake pipe, a valve having a downstream side including a cutoff portion and an upstream side rotatably attached to an inner wall of the intake pipe, and a partition plate provided in the intake pipe so as to divide an intake passage in the intake pipe into an upper intake passage and a lower intake passage. The valve has an open state in which the upper and lower intake passages are open, a closed state in which the upper and lower intake passages are closed; and an intermediate state in which the lower intake passage is closed.

In an air intake apparatus for an engine, an intake port is connected to a cylinder of the engine and an intake valve opens and closes a downstream end of the intake port. The air intake apparatus includes a partition wall provided along a longitudinal direction of the intake port so as to cross-sectionally partition the intake port into two sections, and an intake control valve provided in a pipe forming the intake port, opening and closing a first flow path implemented by partition by the partition wall, and closing the first flow path and narrowing a second flow path. Assuming a sliding direction of a piston within cylinder as an up-down direction, the intake port is partitioned into two upper and lower sections.

Air intake apparatus for internal combustion engine

To prevent deformation, in the upper portions of cylinder bores, that occurs when the cylinder head is mounted on the cylinder block by using head bolts and to prevent deformation in the upper portions of the cylinder bores caused by the thermal expansion of the cylinder head. In an open deck type cylinder block of an internal combustion engine in which the cylinder bores are separated from the outer shell of the cylinder block by water jackets in the upper deck, thick portions are formed near the ends of the cylinder bores located at both ends of the internal combustion engine in the direction of the crank shaft, the end portions being opposed to the outer shell of the cylinder block in the axial direction of the crank shaft, the thick portions being smoothly continuous with the outer shell of the initial cylinder bores. The thick portions have the greatest thickness at the ends in the direction of the crank shaft. A decreased-diameter portion having a thickness smaller than that of the upper portions is formed in the lower portions of the cylinder bores neighboring the regions where the thick portions are formed, and the decreased-diameter portion and the ordinary cylinder bores of the upper portions thereof are connected together through the tapered portion to decrease the weight of the cylinder block.
