A facility searching device includes a road selecting unit for selecting an arbitrary road from road data stored in a storage unit, and a road facility searching unit for searching for facilities located along the road selected by the road selection unit. Therefore, the facility searching device can search for facilities located along an arbitrary road by allowing users to select the arbitrary road regardless of whether or not a route is provided.

Facility searching device, facility searching method, and vehicle-mounted navigation apparatus

A destination navigation method is disclosed, which includes locating present position and destination, searching route to the destination. The method includes giving driving guidance along a route set on basis of a predetermined evaluation index or selection of driver and further determining whether searched route contains a short distance lane change section, where a road having many lanes and distance between an entryway to the road having many lanes and a junction (exit way) is short in order to give notice that it is coming and for driver to avoid it if necessary because the short distance lane change section may cause stress and fatigue especially for an unskilled driver.

Destination route guiding method

When it is decided that the current vehicle position is outside an area described by map data stored on a CD-ROM -i loaded in a disk storage drive , a disk-switching message is produced for switching the CD-ROM -i to a CD-ROM -j having stored thereon map data describing the area covering the current vehicle position. This makes the user aware of the necessity for switching to the CD-ROM -j having the map data describing the area toward which the vehicle is traveling; hence, reliable navigation information is provided continuously over an extended route to the user's destination.

Navigation system

A navigation system searches for a route from the present position to a destination with considering weather information and regulation information collected by an information collecting section ( ) and vehicle information input from an operating section ( ).

A map information display device for a displacement body is provided with a position detection section (,) detecting a present position of a displacement body based on an output of a speed sensor (,) which detects a speed of a displacement body or a gyro (,) which detects a bearing of a displacement body or the like, a map memory (,) which stores map data and a display section (,) which displays a present position of a displacement body detected by said position detection section (,) and a map image based on map data read from a map memory (,). Display of a map image in accord with the requirements of the driver is enabled without a complicated operation by varying a map mode when displaying a map screen on the display section depending on a display state of a map on the display section or an operational state of the displacement body.
