A data processing system includes a unit which executes predetermined data processing by linking first and second apparatuses, a communication control unit which establishes and maintains a communication connection between the apparatuses even if the connection is not in a predetermined operation state capable of executing data processing, a pairing unit which causes the apparatuses to transition to a pairing state, and a control unit which, if the apparatuses' transition to the pairing state is not in a predetermined operation state, causes transition to the operation state by transmitting predetermined signals between the apparatuses via the communication control unit. The execution unit causes the apparatuses to transition to a pairing state, and then executes data processing by linking them. The communication control unit judges whether to establish a communication connection between the apparatuses by referencing pairing states between them, and of a combination with another first or second apparatus.

A data processing system (S) is configured so as mutually register transmission destinations between devices performing communication. When the processor determines that the imaging device functions as the main device, the processor sends imaging information acquired or determined by the imaging device for shooting the common subject to the subordinate devices. In a digital camera, when the shutter button is half-depressed (Y at S), face detection processing is performed on periodically imaged frame images until it is fully depressed (N at S), and face detection results are cyclically stored in a detection result storage area. When it is fully depressed (Y at S), a still-image imaging operation is performed, and the face detection processing is performed on an imaged still-image (Sand S). Then, after a high priority face detection result is selected from among the face detection results currently stored in the detection result storing area (S), the selected face detection result and the face detection result of the still-image are compared and judged whether or not they are in agreement (Sand S).
