A shutter unit includes a base plate on which an opening is formed, at least one blade member, a driving member configured to be rotatably supported by the base plate and to drive, in imaging, the blade member from a standby position to a traveling completion position by using a biasing force of a biasing member, a braking member configured to cause the driving member to decelerate by coming into contact with the driving member, and a charging member configured to cause the driving member to operate to the standby position after causing the driving member to operate from the traveling completion position to a set position against the biasing force of the biasing member, and cause the braking member to operate from the traveling completion position to the standby position while causing the driving member to operate from the set position to the standby position.

An image pickup apparatus includes an image sensor configured to acquire an image, an image-stabilization mechanism configured to reduce blur, a shutter apparatus including a front blade group and a rear blade group, and a control unit configured to provide control on image stabilization. The image sensor has a first mode for acquiring the image based on light passing through an area formed by the front blade group and the rear blade group, and a second mode for acquiring the image based on light passing through an area between an electronic front curtain of the image sensor and the rear blade group. In the first mode, the control unit provides the control on the image stabilization. In the second mode, the control unit determines whether or not to provide the control on the image stabilization, based on a shutter speed of the shutter apparatus.

A cam part includes a blade maintaining section configured to maintain one of an open state and a closed state of the blade group when a cam follower slides, and a blade driving section. Where the cam follower slides in the blade maintaining section and the blade driving section in this order, the motor is driven in the micro step driving mode when the cam follower slides in the blade maintaining section, and the motor is driven in the full step driving mode when the cam follower slides in the blade driving section.
