A camera system comprising means for converting an object image into an image signal, recording means for recording the image signal on a recording medium, reproduction means for reproducing the image signal recorded on the recording medium, finder means for displaying the object image and display means for selectively displaying an image corresponding to the image signal to be recorded or an image corresponding to the reproduced image signal. A display portion of the finder means is smaller than that of the display means and the display portion of the display means has a flat plate which can be exposed to an outside of the camera system.

An image pickup device which includes a device for picking up an image of an object and photoelectrically converting the image into an image signal, a photograph indicating device, for indicating a photographing of the object, an exposure amount setting device, for setting an amount of exposure for effecting photoelectric conversion by the image pickup device and an exposure amount control device, for controlling the exposure amount setting device. The device also includes a recording device, for recording the image signal outputted from the image pickup device, a reproducing device, for reproducing the image signal recorded by the recording device, a change-over operating member, for selectively changing over a recording mode effected by the recording device, or a reproducing mode effected by the reproducing device, an image display device, for selectively displaying the image before recording or the reproduced image in a manner visible from outside, and a control device, for effecting control in response to the operation of the change-over operating member to change over the recording mode and the reproducing mode so that in the recording mode the continuous image signal before recording by the recording device, which has been changed by driving of the exposure amount setting device is displayed by the image display device. At least the image pickup device and the image display device are arranged to form a substantially integral construction.

Disclosed is a method of detecting the focusing condition of an image forming optical system to an object, in which two images of the object are formed with respective light beams from the prescribed exit pupil areas lying in almost symmetry to each other with respect to the optical axis of the optical system and are sensed to obtain an equal number of picture element data for each of the images, and based on the thus-obtained picture element data, while sequential shifting for the first image is carried out from its one end to its opposite end, and a sequential shifting for the second image from its symmetric one end thereto to its opposite end, each by a predetermined number of picture elements, a correlation betweeen the first and second images in every predetermined equal number of picture elements is sought, whereby an optimum correlation is obtained, the corresponding mutual positional relationship between the above-described predetermined numbers of picture elements is detected to discriminate whether or not the above-described image forming optical system is in focus for the above-described object.

Disclosed is a signal accumulating time control method for a signal accumulating type radiation sensing device which produces an electrical signal corresponding to the amount of incident radiation and accumulates the same. According to the improvement of the present invention, the accumulating time is controlled by successive approximation at different intervals when there happens a situation in which the accumulating time must be changed greatly.

In a signal accumulating time control method and apparatus for a signal accumulating type radiation sensing device which produces an electrical signal corresponding to the amount of incident radiation and accumulates the same, an accumulating time controller has first and second different control modes and is adapted to change over from one of said first and second control modes to the other when the intensity of said incident radiation fluctuates a large amount.

In the device disclosed, an image formed by an optical system is scanned by an image sensor composed of independently arranged photoelectric transducing elements to produce an image scanning signal. A detecting circuit detects the variation of the brightness between the adjacent image elements as a measure of the sharpness of the image and the focus of the optical system. The focus detection accuracy is improved by non-linear transformation of the brightness variation signal with a non-linear transformation circuit that weighs the brightness variation signal on the basis of the signal level. A signal forming circuit detects the difference between the outputs of transducing elements and adds the differences to produce a comparator signal when a predetermined relationship is reached between the sharpness indication and the addition signal. An indicator indicates that the focusing condition cannot be discerned in response to the comparison signal and a control inhibits the output of the detection circuit to the indicator prior to the addition signal.

Focus detecting device

A focus detecting apparatus is disclosed which includes a focusing optical system for forming an object image on a predetermined focal plane and photoelectric devices disposed before and behind the focal plane at substantially equal distances from the plane. The photoelectric devices detect the focus states of the object images formed thereon respectively. The focus state of the object image on the focal plane is detected depending on whether or not the focus states on the photoelectric devices are equal to each other. According to the invention such a focus detecting apparatus further includes a mask for gradually decreasing the quantity of light incident upon the photoelectric devices in the direction away from the center of the incident beam. Under the action of such a mask, the focus states of object images before and behind the predetermined focal plane at substantially equal distances from the focal plane are made approximately equal to each other.

A camera system has a camera main body which has a focus detecting device for detecting a focusing state of a photographic optical means in a photographic lens assembly mounted, a display responsive to an output signal from the focus detecting device, and a contact for transmitting the output signal of the focus detecting device to outside of the camera main body. In this camera system, the camera main body are usable with a photographic lens assembly of first type which has an automatic focusing device which is capable of automatically focusing the photographic optical system on the basis of the output signal from the focus detecting device, and with a photographic lens assembly of second type which does not have such an automatic focusing device. When the camera main body is combined with the photographic lens assembly of first type, automatic focusing of the photographic optical system may be performed. When the camera main body is combined with the photographic lens assembly of second type, manual focusing may be performed utilizing a display at the side of the camera main body for displaying the focusing state.
