A combined memory medium is constructed by an optical disc used as a read-only memory, a cartridge for holding or receiving the optical disc, and a fixed memory which is held in the cartridge. The read or write operation for the fixed memory is carried out by structure different from that used for the optical disc so that the optical disc and the fixed memory constitute an integral memory medium. A combined memory medium drive apparatus includes the combined memory medium, a disc access block for reading out the data on the optical disc, a memory access block for performing reading or writing of data for the fixed memory, and a control block for interpreting an instruction sent from an external device to control the reading of data from the optical disc through the disc access block and the reading or writing of data for the fixed memory through the memory access block, in which the optical disc and the fixed memory are complementarily used. A combined memory medium playback apparatus includes the combined memory medium drive apparatus and a processing block for controlling it to process the data output therefrom, thereby being capable of performing writing. Because the control program is stored in the fixed memory, the drive apparatus and the playback apparatus are able to be operated with the combined memory medium alone, dispensing with the need for another memory medium.

In an optical signal reproducing apparatus for a conventional disc phonograph record, the groove of said record is irradiated with the light beam from a direction that varies cyclically at a constant frequency in a plane. Said plane includes both the tangential velocity vector of the groove and a normal line to the surface of the groove. At the moment that the light beam irradiates the surface of the groove from a perpendicular direction, the reflected light beam traces back the same path as that of the irradiating light beam. When a photo-detector is limited by a slit to detect only the reflected light beam tracing back the same path as the irradiating light beam, the photo-detector detects light pulses which are pulse-phase-modulated by the slope angle of the surface of the groove. The recorded signal can be reproduced by demodulating said pulse-phase-modulated pulses.

Optical signal reproducing apparatus

A game apparatus for enabling players present at remote places from each other to easily play the game through a connected common communication network like a telephone line. The game apparatus has functions for detecting and displaying the moved arrangement of a game piece, for transmitting and receiving the detected signals via the communication network, and for collating the reproductive motion of the one player, performed by watching the displayed moved arrangement of a game piece, with the intended motion carried out by the other player.

Remote game apparatus

An electric rotating machine includes a field permanent magnet which is permanently magnetized to N and S poles alternatively and an armature core which is arranged coaxially with the magnet and has a plurality of salient poles facing to the magnet. Poly-phase coils are wound on the root of the salient poles. By providing an indented portion at the major face of the salient pole facing the magnet, the cogging torque can be remarkably reduced, and further by providing auxiliary salient poles ripple torque can be also reduced.

Rotating electric machine

A speed control system for a d-c electric motor comprising a three-terminal space control IC to provide a constant voltage source having a negative internal resistance equal in absolute value to the internal resistance of the motor and thereby render the motor rotatable at a constant controlled speed. A resistance element having a positive temperature coefficient is used as an external circuit element for the IC so that rotation speed variations relative to load torque variations will be substantially constant despite variations in the ambient temperature.

Speed control system for small size D-C electric motor

An electronic control apparatus for controlling currents supplied to star-connected multiphase loads. The apparatus has two sets of switching means, a reference signal source, a voltage detector for detecting the voltage of the common terminal of the star-connection, a comparator for comparing the outputs of the voltage detector and the reference signal source, a feedback amplifier for amplifying the output of the comparator, a load current supplying means for supplying a current to the multiphase loads through one set of the two sets of the switching means according to a command signal, a feedback current draining means coupled to the feedback amplifier and the other set of the two sets of the switching means, and a timing signal generator for selectively switching the two sets of the switching means, wherein the feedback current draining means drains the current through said other set of switching means from the multiphase loads so as to keep the voltage at the common terminal of the star connection constant or substantially constant regardless of the mode of the timing signal generator.
