Silicon oxide containing active silicon represented by the general formula: SiOx wherein x is from 0.8 to 1.9, when analyzed by solid state NMR (29Si DD/MAS) with a sufficient relaxation time set, exhibits a spectrum having two separate peaks, a broad peak (A1) centered at &minus;70 ppm and a broad peak (A2) centered at &minus;110 ppm, the area ratio A1/A2 being in the range of 0.1&lE;A1/A2&lE;1.0.

Silicon oxide containing active silicon and its evaluation

Organohalosilanes are prepared by reacting metallic silicon with a halogenated hydrocarbon in the presence of a copper or copper compound catalyst and an activated aluminum, aluminum alloy or aluminum carbide promotor. The reaction is carried out at a temperature of 250-400&deg; C. in a stirred tank reactor or a fluidized bed reactor. The inventive process shortens the time required for activation in the Rochow reaction and increases the selectivity for desirable diorganodihalosilanes. The steady state is thus prolonged and conversion of the silicon enhanced, resulting in an improved reaction performance.

Process for preparing organohalosilanes

When oganohalosilanes are prepared by charging a reactor with a contact mass containing a metallic silicon powder and a copper catalyst, and introducing an organohalide-containing gas into the reactor to effect the direct reaction, a poly(organo)phosphino compound is added to the contact mass. The invention is successful in producing organohalosilanes at a significantly improved production rate without reducing the selectivity of useful silane.

Preparation of organohalosilanes

When oganohalosilanes are prepared by charging a reactor with a contact mass containing a metallic silicon powder and a copper catalyst, and introducing an organohalide-containing gas into the reactor to effect the direct reaction, a metal complex of an organophosphino compound is added to the contact mass. The invention is successful in producing organohalosilanes at a significantly improved production rate without reducing the selectivity of useful silane.

An organic silicon compound having at least one phenyl skeleton, at least one nitrogen atom, and at least one SiH radical is added to an adhesive silicone composition comprising a diorganopolysiloxane containing at least two alkenyl radicals, an organohydrogenpolysiloxane containing at least two SiH radicals, and a platinum catalyst. The composition firmly adheres to organic resins, especially polyamide and polyimide resins, but not to metals.

Adhesive silicone compositions

The invention provides a primer composition comprising (I) an organoalkoxysilane or siloxane, (II) an organohydrogensiloxane having an SiH group and an alkoxysilyl group, and (III) an organic titanate. Also provided is a primer composition comprising (A) an alkenyl-containing organopolysiloxane, (B) an organopolysiloxane, (C) an organoalkoxysilane or siloxane, (D) an organohydrogensiloxane having an SiH group and an alkoxysilyl group, (E) a platinum catalyst, (F) an organic titanate, and (G) an organic peroxide. The primer compositions have sufficient adhesion to join thermoset silicone rubber to various substrates.

Primer compositions

In a heat-curable silicone elastomer composition comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two aliphatic-unsaturated hydrocarbon groups each bonded to a silicon atom and (B) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two hydrogen atoms each bonded to a silicon atom, there is blended (C) a hydrosilylating catalyst in the form of a hydrosilylation-promoting compound on a porous filler having a mean particle size of 0.1-100 .mu.m and a pore volume of 0.5-5 cm.sup.3 /g. The composition is stable during storage at room temperature, but quickly curable at elevated temperatures through hydrosilylation reaction.

Heat-curable silicone elastomer compositions

A heat curable silicone elastomer composition includes (1) an organopolysiloxane having at least two aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbon groups, (2) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two hydrogen atoms, and (3) a platinum-containing silicone resin having a melting or softening point of 49.degree. to 150.degree. C. and containing 0.05-0.3 mol % of SiOH group. The composition is storage stable at room temperature and efficiently cures through hydrosilylation reaction at high temperature.

Heat curable silicone elastomer compositions

A heat-curable silicone elastomer composition comprising (A) a thermoplastic resin containing a platinum catalyst and a hydrosilylation reaction retarding agent, (B) an organopolysiloxane having at least two unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon groups bonded to silicon atoms in its molecule, and (C) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms in its molecule. The composition is excellent in storage stability. That is, even when stored for a long time, the composition has good stability at room temperature and retains curability at high temperatures.

Heat-curable silicone elastomer composition

A novel acrylic-functional organopolysiloxane is proposed which has a plural number of silicon-bonded (meth)acryloxyalkyl groups at each molecular chain end along with one or more of silicon-bonded alkoxy groups. The organopolysiloxane exhibits high curability by the irradiation with ultraviolet light or dual curability either by the ultraviolet irradiation or by the dealcoholation condensation reaction in a moisture-containing atmosphere. The acrylic-functional organopolysiloxane is prepared by the dealcoholation condensation reaction between a starting organopolysiloxane having a plural number of silicon-bonded alkoxy groups at each molecular chain end and a (meth)acryloxyalkyl dimethyl silanol compound in the presence of a specific condensation catalyst which is a divalent tin compound such as tin (II) dioctoate promoting the dealcoholation condensation but suppressing the silanol condensation reaction between the moleculaes of the (meth)acryloxyalkyl dimethyl silanol compound.

Acrylic-functional organopolysiloxane and method for the preparation

Curable compositions comprising (A) an organopolysiloxane of the following general formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are monovalent hydrocarbon groups, and R.sup.4 is a divalent organic group, (B) a silane having an .alpha.-silylester group, (C) a photoinitiator, and (D) a curing catalyst. The compositions are both photo-curable and room-temperature-curable. When cured by irradiation with light, the compositions give cured products having good rubber properties.

Curable organopolysiloxane compositions

A novel organopolysiloxane compound having, in a molecule, at least one silyl-substituted ethyl group of the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group and the subscripts a is 2 or and b is 1, 2 or 3, or a linear organopolysiloxane having, at each molecular chain end, at least one of such a group, can be prepared by first reacting a vinyl-containing organopolysiloxane with a hydrogen chlorosilane compound to effect the hydrosilation reaction between the silicon-bonded vinyl groups and the silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms and then the silicon-bonded chlorine atoms are subjected to a dehydrochlorination reaction with a silanol compound of the general formula ##STR2## A composition comprising the organopolysiloxane and a photopolymerization initiator is highly sensitive to light and readily cured into a rubbery elastomer by irradiation with ultraviolet light.

Organopolysiloxanes having silethylene linkages and a curable

Room temperature curable organopolysiloxane compositions (and the hardened products of such compositions) which comprise (A) a diorganopolysiloxane with hydroxyl groups at both ends, (B) a quaternary functional silane with four groups to be hydrolyzed and/or partially hydrolyzed products thereof, (C) a curing catalyst, (D) a filler, (E) a tertiary functional silane with three groups to be hydrolyzed and/or partially hydrolyzed products thereof and (F) an amine functional silane and/or an addition products with an acrylic acid ester or with a methacrylic acid ester show good adhesiveness towards surface-activated objects which has superior water-resistance.

Room temperature curable organopolysiloxane compositions

This invention enables the selective and easy manufacturing of acrylic organopolysiloxanes which are cured by the irradiation of UV light, by the reaction of the hydroxyl group containing organosilicon compounds (A) of formula (1): ##STR1## wherein each R.sup.1 independently is a substituted or an unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group, and n designates integers from 1 to 10,000 with the acrylic group containing silane compounds (B) of formula (2): ##STR2## wherein each R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently is a substituted or an unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group, R.sup.4 is either a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and each of a and b is an integer from 1 to 3, in the presence of a divalent tin compound of formula (3):

Process for the manufacturing of acrylic organopolysiloxanes

The present process of producing a room temperature curable organopolysiloxane composition is characterized in that an organopolysiloxane represented by the following general formula (1) or (2): ##STR1## wherein X represents a hydrolyzable group such as an alkoxy group, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a monovalent hydrocarbon group such as an alkyl group and a phenyl group, n is a positive integer, and a is 2 or 3, and a finely divided silica are mixed and thereafter a condensation catalyst is mixed. According to the present process, a curable composition which will not slump can be obtained without using a slump preventive.
