An abrasive grain-milling unit and a friction grain-milling unit are located on upper and lower portions of a pedestal, respectively. The friction grain-milling unit includes a grain feed trough to which a milled grain discharge trough of the abrasive grain milling unit is connected. A two-way grain feed trough and change-over valve is located above the abrasive grain-milling unit and is capable of selectively feeding grains either directly to the friction grain-milling unit or to the friction grain-milling unit via the abrasive grain-milling unit.

A bran removing wire-mesh tube includes: bran removing wire-mesh tube partsdivided in more than one in a circumferential direction in planar view; and a plurality of support pillarserected at intervals in the circumferential direction to respectively fix both side edges of the divided bran removing wire-mesh tube parts. Each of the support pillarsis provided with an elongated resistorthat suppresses grains from moving in the circumferential direction along with rotation of grinding type grain cleaning rolls. The resistoris urged by an elastic memberto a position at which the resistorprotrudes toward the inside of a grain cleaning chamber. Further, the resistoris provided so as to be movable in a radial direction to a position farther from the grain cleaning chamberdue to resistance from the grains.

A grinding type vertical grain milling machine is capable of shortening a dimension of a machine body in the vertical direction and removing bran by evenly suctioning an entire bran removing chamber. The grinding type vertical grain milling machine includes a bran removing metallic mesh cylinder with a main shaft, an integral grinding type grain milling roll body, a bran removing chamber, and a bran discharge pipe that discharges bran to the outside of the machine. A fan-pulley is provided between the bran removing chamber and the bran discharge pipe. The fan-pulley rotationally drives the main shaft to which the grinding type grain milling roll is axially attached and generates a bran removing wind to convey bran produced by the grain milling action of the grinding type grain milling roll from the bran removing chamber toward the bran discharge pipe.

An apparatus for manufacturing no-bran cereal such as no-bran rice which require no washing before cooking. With the apparatus, bran stuck on a surface of a grain of the polished cereal is easily removed without imparting any damage on the surface, and further moisture in the grain is maintained to increase taste of the cereal. Moisture is added to the polished cereal and granular material is mixed and stirred with the moistened polished cereal to polish a surface of each grain of the polished cereal and remove bran stuck on the surface of the polished cereal. Then, the polished cereal is separated from the granular material to obtain the no-bran rice.
