Improved method and device for feeding a specific length of wrapping paper to a packaging section in a coin packaging machine are disclosed, wherein the improvement consists in that every cycle of wrapping paper feeding is carried out by way of the steps of forwarding a certain length of wrapping paper to the packaging section by means of wrapping paper feeding rollers until the leading end part of the forwarded wrapping paper is brought to the position located at the side of one of wrapping rollers, firmly holding the wrapping paper against the guide wall of a guide passage, displacing a movable guide away from the latter, carrying out an additional feeding in dependence on the selected diameter of coins to be packaged and cutting off the wrapping paper to the specific length by thrusting it against a cutting knife while it is stretched.

A device for determining the diameters of circular objects such as coins is made up of a pair of photo-electric converters which are extended from both sides of a coin passageway towards the central line of the latter, a pair of light-shielded portion area measuring circuits for producing signals representing the areas of the portions of the converters which are shielded from light by a circular object according to the outputs of the converters, an adder for providing the sum of the outputs of the two light-shielded portion area measuring circuits, a maximum value memory circuit for storing the maximum of the outputs of the adder which are provided during passage of one circular object through the converters, and a circuit for determining the diameter of the circular object according to the data stored in the maximum value memory circuit.

An improved coin stacking apparatus serving as a preliminary means for a coin packing machine or the like is disclosed, wherein the improvement consists in that a predetermined number of coins are stacked in a stacking space as defined by a pair of endless belts located opposite to each other with the aid of coin supports fixedly secured to the inner portions of the endless belts. The coins to be stacked are delivered into the stacking space by way of a coin passage using a conveyor endless belt. Coin stacking is effected by way of the steps of receiving a coin on the coin supports as if it rides thereon, lowering them stepwise by a distance equivalent to the thickness of a single coin and repeating the above two steps until the predetermined number of coins are stacked one above another. A control system is provided for the apparatus and it is operated so as to control a driving mechanism for the pair of endless belts in response to a signal transmitted from a coin detecting device while a predetermined height difference is always kept between the working surface of the coin passage and the upper face of the stacked structure of coins.

In a coin processing machine wherein coins from a turntable are sent in succession through a coin passageway to a processing position, a pair of coin guides at least one of which is adjustable by a first control member are arranged on opposite sides of the coin passageway thus defining the width variable of the coin passageway, a residual coin detecting device comprises an electric driving unit driving the first control member and also a second control member in accordance with a selected one of a plurality of selectable denominations of coins set in the machine, and a residual coin detecting member controlled by the second control member in vertical movements between the coin guides prior to the adjustment of the movable coin guide by the first control member, so that coins incidentally remaining in the coin passageway are detected by the coin detecting member.

In a coin processing apparatus, the flow rate of coins fed into a coin passageway from a rotary disk is detected so as to change the rotation of the rotary disk according to the flow rate thus detected thereby keeping the flow rate of the coins in the coin passageway constant at all times.

In a coin packaging machine, a coin stacking cylinder is formed with positive terminal boards, negative terminal boards, and insulating boards which extend in the axial direction of the cylinder in such a manner that one insulating board is interposed for every pair of positive and negative terminal boards. These boards are movably supported so as to change the inside diameter of the cylinder according to the outside diameter of coins to be packaged.

A coin packaging machine for packaging a predetermined number of coins has a denomination selecting section for selecting a denomination of coins, a packaging section for packaging stacked coins in a paper wrapper, a conveyor for conveying coins to the packaging section, and a counting section for counting the number of coins conveyed. Upon selection of a new denomination, the coins of the previously selected denomination left in the packaging section are removed, and packaging of coins of the newly selected denomination is automatically started.

A machine for packaging a predetermined number of coins has a coin feeding device, a coin counting device for counting coins, a coin packaging device for stacking and packaging coins fed by the coin feeding device, a control system for controlling the above described devices, a detecting device for detecting whether the stacking or packaging of the coins is acceptable or not and for producing a detection signal when unacceptable packaging is detected, a rejecting device for rejecting a package of coins detected as unacceptable from the coin packaging device, and a restart commanding system for applying a restart command signal to the control system when the production of the detection signal ceases after the coins are rejected, whereby the next packaging operation is started.

For packaging a preselected number of coins of the same denomination in the form of a neat stack, there is provided apparatus which broadly includes an infeed mechanism, coin stacking mechanism, coin wrapping mechanism, coin guide mechanism, wrapper feed mechanism, and adjusting mechanism. Each preselected number of coins of the same denomination to be enclosed in a single package is fed from the infeed mechanism into a stacking cylinder of the coin stacking mechanism, where the coins are rearranged into a neat stack. The coin guide mechanism includes a guide rod movable up and down for transporting the stack of coins from within the stacking cylinder down to a prescribed position between a plurality of wrapping rolls of the coin wrapping mechanism. A strip of wrapper is then delivered from the wrapper feed mechanism to the coin wrapping mechanism and is wound around the circumference of the stack of coins as the same is caused frictionally to rotate in circumferential contact with the wrapping rolls. The loose lateral edges of the wrapper strip are succeedingly fold crimped over the top and bottom ends of the coin stack by a pair of retractable crimping hooks. Upon manual operation of a knob to select the denomination of coins to be packaged, the various working parts of the apparatus are automatically adjusted to the diameter and thickness of the coins of the selected denomination.
