Provided are intermediate coupling unit that can maintain universal applicability of image forming apparatus so it can singly form images/be installed in small offices, but can also couple two apparatuses if necessary, and image forming apparatus adaptable to this unit. Intermediate coupling unit includes carry-in port at lower surface right side, plural conveying roller pairs sandwiching and conveying internally-carried-in recording medium, discharge ports formed near upper surface right/left ends for externally discharging recording medium, first/second flaps switching among conveying paths, A, B, C, paper discharge tray fixed at upper internal position, and internal paper feed cassette detachable downward. Two identical-shape printers are linked through conveying path A and enable double-speed-printing when coupled to top/bottom of intermediate coupling unit to face same direction, and linked through conveying path B and enable fast-double-side-printing when coupled to face opposite directions.

A printer controller,sets compensation values, representing the positional deviations of LED array chips,in a delay circuit section,via shift register,and a latch circuit,The shift register,sequentially acquires bit map data from the printer controller,and supplies the acquired bit map data to an AND gate,through the latch circuit,Upon receiving a strobe signal from the printer controller,the delay circuit section,supplies the received strobe signal to the AND gate,after a delay time corresponding to a preset compensation value has lapsed. The AND gate,generates drive signals each being the logical product of the input bit map data and the strobe signal, and supplies them to the LED array chips,through a buffer,The LED array chips,make LEDs emit light at the timings corresponding to the positional deviations so that images are formed without a positional deviation. At least one of the LED array chips is unaligned with adjacent ones of the LED array chips and preset compensation values are obtained by interpolation based on detected positional deviations of sampled ones of the LED array chips.

Optical writing head driving device

A facsimile apparatus receives identification data identifying a particular destination terminal, at the time of transmitting document data to the destination terminal via a telephone line. A memory unit stores, as a data pair, a facsimile number input by manual dialing, and the identification data returned from the destination terminal. A display unit displays the identification data. A selection unit selects one of the identification data displayed on the display means. A line connecting unit reads out a facsimile number stored in the memory means and corresponding to the selected identification data, and connects the facsimile apparatus to a telephone line corresponding to the readout facsimile number.
