The purpose of the present invention is to provide a lead-free glass composition in which crystallization is suppressed and which has a low softening point. This lead-free glass composition is characterized by containing silver oxide, tellurium oxide and vanadium oxide, and further containing at least one compound selected from among yttrium oxide, lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide, erbium oxide, ytterbium oxide, aluminum oxide, gallium oxide, indium oxide, iron oxide, tungsten oxide and molybdenum oxide as an additional component, and in that the content values (mol %) of silver oxide, tellurium oxide and vanadium oxide satisfy the relationships AgO&#x3e;TeO&#x2265;VOand AgO&#x2264;2VOwhen calculated in terms of the oxides, and in that the content of TeOis 25-37 mol. %.

A method for fabricating multi-sheet structures in which a first sheet is arranged on a planar support and a blowing agent is placed on at least one selected portion of the first sheet. A second sheet is positioned over the first sheet so that the second sheet overlies the selected portion of the first sheet and the first and second sheets are then secured together by friction stir welding in a pattern which encloses the selected portion of the first sheet. Additional sheets may be secured together in a like fashion. Thereafter, the sheets are heated to a temperature sufficient to decompose the blowing agent.

A friction stirring-welding method capable of increasing the welding strength of a lap joint. A welding tool () comprises a small diameter projected part () at the tip of a shoulder (). The welding tool is press-fitted to the upper plate () of the lap joint while being rotated. By a friction stirring action, an upper plate side welding boundary surface () plastically flows, a surface oxidation film on a lapped surface is peeled off, and the boundary surface is activated to provide an excellent welding part. Also, since the welding tool is formed in a shape having the small diameter semispherical projected part () at the tip thereof, the thickness () of an upper plate welding part is increased, and a lap joint part with high welding strength can be provided.

Friction stirring-welding method

A problem of FSW spot-welding is that a bonding strength tends to be low, since an area of metallic bonding is limited to the neighborhood of a pin portion of the welding tool. In order to solve the problem, after a tool () is inserted into a member () to be welded, a rotation shaft of the welding tool is tilted around a predetermined point () as a fulcrum, and the tip portion of the welding tool () is swung to enlarge a plastic flow area caused by rotation of the tool. As a result, the welding strength can be increased.

A method for correcting surface and near surface defects in metal components in which the component is first inspected to identify both the site and size of a component defect.
