A honeycomb structure includes periphery honeycomb fired bodies which include at least a single piece of a periphery small honeycomb fired body having in the cross-section a cross-sectional area which is less than about 60% of a cross-sectional area of a single piece of the center-portion honeycomb fired body. A cross-sectional area of a periphery honeycomb bonded body in the cross-section is about 60% or more of the cross-sectional area of a single piece of the center-portion honeycomb fired body. The second adhesive layer is provided between the periphery small honeycomb fired body and the at least one piece of the honeycomb fired body. The second adhesive layer has thermal conductivity higher than thermal conductivity of a first adhesive layer. The second adhesive layer has Young's modulus higher than Young's modulus of the first adhesive layer. The center-portion honeycomb fired bodies are bonded together with the first adhesive layer.

Honeycomb structure and method for manufacturing honeycomb structure

A honeycomb structure includes at least one honeycomb unit including zeolite, an inorganic binder, and cell walls. The cell walls extend from a first end face to a second end face to define cells along a longitudinal direction of the at least one honeycomb unit. Each of the cell walls includes a center part in the longitudinal direction and a first end part adjacent to the first end face. The first end part has a thickness larger than a thickness of the center part, and/or the first end part has a porosity smaller than a porosity of the center part.

Honeycomb structure, exhaust gas conversion apparatus, and manufacturing method of the honeycomb structure

A ceramic porous sintered body including a plurality of ceramic coarse particles and a polycrystalline sintered body forming a bonding layer. The bonding layer exists between the ceramic coarse particles and connects the ceramic coarse particles. The polycrystalline sintered body includes a plurality of ceramic fine particles having an average particle size smaller than the ceramic coarse particles. The ceramic porous sintered body has an average pore diameter of 5 &#x3bc;m to 50 &#x3bc;m. A ratio of an average particle size of the ceramic coarse particle to the ceramic fine particles is 15:1-200:1.

Ceramic sintered body and ceramic filter

A honeycomb structure includes aluminum titanate, cell walls, and pore portions. The cell walls extend along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure to define cells between the cell walls. The pore portions have an average pore diameter of about 10 &#x3bc;m to about 20 &#x3bc;m. A length of a longest pore portion among the pore portions in a binary image including substrate portions and the pore portions is about 8 times or less of the average pore diameter. The binary image is converted from a microscopic image of a cross section of the cell walls in parallel with the longitudinal direction. The length is measured along a line drawn in a direction perpendicular to a thickness direction of the cell walls.

Honeycomb structure

A honeycomb structured body of the present invention comprises a plurality of cells placed in parallel with one another in a longitudinal direction with a cell wall therebetween, wherein an oxide catalyst is supported on at least one portion of the cell wall, and the honeycomb structured body has an apparent density of about 0.7 g/cmor less.

Honeycomb structured body and exhaust gas purifying device

A honeycomb structure includes aluminum titanate and cell walls. The cell walls extend along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure to form a plurality of cells between the cell walls. A porosity of the honeycomb structure is from about 40% to about 60%. In a binary image of substrate portions and pore portions of each of the cell walls, an area ratio (%) of the pore portions to a whole area in a rectangularly-divided image is in a range from (the porosity&#x2212;about 25%) to (the porosity+about 25%). The binary image is converted from a microscopic image of a cross section of each of the cell walls in parallel with the longitudinal direction. The rectangularly-divided image is formed by dividing the binary image in a direction parallel to a thickness direction of each of the cell walls at a predetermined width.

An object of the present invention is to provide a honeycomb structural body which is low in pressure loss and can prolong a period up to a regenerating process. The present invention is directed to a columnar honeycomb structural body comprising a large number of through holes placed in parallel with one another in a length direction with wall portion interposed therebetween, wherein: each of the through holes has one of ends sealed; one end face of the through hole differs in opening area from the other end face thereof; a ceramic material which constitutes the wall portion has an average pore diameter in a range from 5 to 30 &#x3bc;m; and the rate of capacity of micro pores each having a pore diameter two or more times larger than the average pore diameter is set to 30% or less of the capacity of the entire micro pores.

Honeycomb structural body

A honeycomb structure includes at least one honeycomb unit which includes walls. The walls have a thickness of from about 0.10 mm to about 0.50 mm and extend along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure to define through-holes. The honeycomb structure has a center area inside a boundary line passing through positions located at substantially a half of a length from a center of the honeycomb structure to a periphery of the honeycomb structure in a cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The honeycomb structure has a peripheral area outside the boundary line. A thickness of the walls located in the peripheral area is larger than a thickness of the walls located in the center area. A first opening ratio in the center area in the cross section is larger than a second opening ratio in the peripheral area in the cross section.

A honeycomb structured body including a plurality of cells that are placed in parallel with one another in a longitudinal direction with a cell wall therebetween, and a sealing portion sealing either one of the end portions of the cells. The honeycomb structured body has a porosity of at least about 70% and at most about 95% and having a length about 0.2 to about 0.9 times a diameter thereof, where the length is in the longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structured body, and the diameter is of a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structured body.

Honeycomb structured body

An object of the present invention is to provide a honeycomb structural body with a long service life, which can reduce a pressure loss to a low level upon collecting particulates and maintain the pressure loss at the low level for a long time even after regenerating processes. The honeycomb structural body includes a columnar porous ceramic block in which a large number of through holes are placed in parallel with one another in the length direction with a wall portion interposed therebetween. Herein, the large number of through holes are constituted by a group of large-capacity through holes, each of which is sealed at one end of the honeycomb structural body so that the total sum of the areas on a cross section perpendicular to the length direction is made relatively great, and a group of small-capacity through holes, each of which is sealed at the other end of the honeycomb structural body so that the total sum of the areas on the cross section is made relatively small, and a surface roughness Rof the wall face of the through hole is set in a range from 10 to 100 &#x3bc;m.

A honeycomb structured body of the present invention is a honeycomb structured body in which plural pillar-shaped honeycomb units are bonded to one another through sealing material layers, each unit having in the longitudinal direction a large number of cells placed in parallel with a cell wall therebetween. Herein, a cross-sectional area of the honeycomb unit on a cross-section perpendicular to the length direction is at least about 5 cmand at most about 50 cm, the honeycomb unit includes inorganic fibers and/or whiskers in addition to inorganic particles, and a Young's modulus of the honeycomb unit is at least about 50% and at most about 150% of a Young's modulus of the sealing material layer.

A honeycomb structure includes honeycomb units. Each of the honeycomb units has a longitudinal direction and includes inorganic particles, an inorganic binder, and cell walls defining cells extending along the longitudinal direction from one end face to another end face. The honeycomb units are bonded together via an adhesive such that each longitudinal direction is substantially in parallel. An amount of ammonia desorbed per unit mass of the honeycomb units is about 5 to about 100 times greater than an amount of ammonia desorbed per unit mass of the adhesive. The amount of ammonia desorbed per unit mass of the honeycomb units and the amount of ammonia desorbed per unit mass of the adhesive are measured by an NH-TPD method.

A honeycomb structure includes a honeycomb unit which has zeolite, inorganic binder, and cell walls extending from one end to another end along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb unit to define cells. An amount of zeolite contained per apparent unit volume of the honeycomb unit is approximately 230 g/L or more. Mathematical formulae [1] and [2] are satisfied when a thickness of the cell walls is defined as X mm and an average pore diameter of a surface of the cell walls observed by a microscope is defined as Y &#x3bc;m:+0.07&#x2266;+0.27 &#x2003;&#x2003;[1]approximately 0.15&#x2266;&#x2266;approximately 0.35 &#x2003;&#x2003;[2].

A honeycomb structure includes at least one honeycomb unit having opening ratio (P) of at least approximately 50% and at most approximately 65% and a cell density &#x3c1; of at least approximately 31/cmand at most approximately 93/cm. The honeycomb unit includes an inorganic binder and at least approximately 230 g/L of zeolite in which L represents an apparent volume. The honeycomb unit further includes and a plurality of cell walls extending from a first end to a second end of the honeycomb unit along a longitudinal direction of the honeycomb unit to define cells. The cell walls have a surface roughness Ra of at least approximately 1 &#x3bc;m and at most approximately 30 &#x3bc;m.

Honeycomb structure and manufacturing method of the honeycomb structure

A honeycomb structure includes at least one honeycomb unit. The at least one honeycomb unit has a longitudinal direction and includes zeolite and an inorganic binder. A content of the zeolite per apparent unit volume of the at least one honeycomb unit is about 230 g/L or greater. The at least one honeycomb includes plural cell walls extending from one end face to another end face along the longitudinal direction to define plural cell walls. A porosity of substantially all pores in the cell walls is about 40% or less. A porosity of pores having diameters in a range of about 0.005 &#x3bc;m through about 0.02 &#x3bc;m in the cell walls is about 5% or greater. A porosity of pores having diameters in a range of about 0.05 &#x3bc;m through about 0.2 &#x3bc;m in the cell walls is about 17.5% or greater.
