A swash plate includes a boss, which is mounted on the drive shaft, and a plate portion, which extends from the boss to be inclined with respect to the drive shaft. A rotary valve includes a suction passage, which sequentially connects cylinder bores in a suction stroke via an associated guide passage. An introduction guide communicates with the shaft bore to introduce the refrigerant gas in the swash plate chamber to the rotary valve. The introduction guide faces the boss and extends in the radial direction from the shaft bore beyond the boss. Therefore, suction efficiency of refrigerant gas from the swash plate chamber to the cylinder bore has improved.

A compressor has a suction muffler structure capable of reducing vibration and noise accompanying liquid compression. The suction muffler structure involves a muffler chamber defined between a suction chamber of the compressor and an external coolant circuit. A suction passage connects the muffler chamber to the suction chamber. A liquid-storage space is formed in the region of the muffler chamber lower than the inlet of the suction passage to the muffler chamber.

A vehicle air conditioner includes a variable displacement compressor forming a part of a coolant circuit, detectors for detecting external information necessary for air conditioning, and a controller. The compressor has pistons and mechanism for actuating the pistons to draw, compress and discharge refrigerant. The piston actuating mechanism is located in a crank chamber. The pressure in the crank chamber is changed to vary the compressor displacement. The controller controls the compressor based on the information from the detectors. When disengaging an electromagnetic clutch, which is located between a vehicle engine and the compressor, the controller quickly decreases the compressor displacement and prevents the pressure difference between the crank chamber and compression chambers excessively increased. Therefore, immediately after being stopped, the compressor is started at the minimum displacement, which minimizes the shock due to load torque change on the engine. Also, the electromagnetic clutch is prevented from malfunctioning.

A compressor that reduces pressure pulsation includes a mounting member for attaching the compressor to a vehicle support. The mounting member is integrally formed with an end wall of a rear housing member. A suction chamber and a discharge chamber are defined in the rear housing member. The discharge chamber is located outside the suction chamber and surrounds the suction chamber. An auxiliary chamber is formed in the mounting member. The auxiliary chamber is centrally located. The auxiliary chamber increases the volume of the suction chamber, which reduces pulsation. Since the auxiliary chamber is formed in the mounting member, neither the weight or the volume of parts that might interfere with other devices is increased.

A variable displacement compressor compresses gas supplied from an evaporator of an external refrigerant circuit and discharges the compressed gas to the refrigerant circuit. A check valve is located between the compressor suction chamber and the evaporator. The check valve prevents gas flow from the suction chamber to the evaporator. When the compressor is stopped, a displacement control valve increases the pressure in a crank chamber of the compressor to move a swash plate to a minimum inclination position. The pressure in the suction chamber is increased by gas supplied from the crank chamber. Closing the check valve accelerates a pressure increase in the suction chamber. When the pressure in the suction chamber is increased, the control valve limits a further pressure increase in the crank chamber. As a result, the force that decreases the inclination of the swash plate is limited.

Device and method for controlling displacement of variable displacement compressor

A support spring including a front end having a small diameter and a rear end having a large diameter. The diameter of the rear end can be varied. A cylinder block includes an annular groove, which is coaxial with the support spring. The rear end is elastically deformed in the radial direction and is positioned in the annular groove. This firmly positions the support spring and prevents vibration and noise.

A piston for use in a compressor that compresses gas containing lubricating oil is disclosed. The compressor has a crank chamber and cylinder bores for accommodating the pistons. A swash plate is located in the crank chamber and is supported on a drive shaft for integrally rotating with the drive shaft. The swash plate is operably connected to the pistons by shoes to convert the rotation of the drive shaft to reciprocation of each piston. Each piston has a head for compressing the gas supplied to the cylinder bore and a skirt projecting from the head toward the crank chamber. The skirt has a slot for receiving the swash plate by means of the shoes. A rib is formed on an inner wall of the slot and extends parallel to the axis of the piston. When the swash plate rotates, swirling gas in the crank chamber collides against the rib. When the gas collides against the rib, the oil contained in the gas separates from the gas and is guided to the shoes.

A piston for use in a compressor that compresses gas containing lubricating oil is disclosed. The compressor includes a housing having a crank chamber and cylinder bores, and a swash plate located in the crank chamber. The swash plate is operably connected to the pistons by shoes to convert the rotation of a drive shaft to the reciprocation of each piston. Each piston has a head for compressing the gas supplied to the cylinder bore and a skirt projecting from the head toward the crank chamber. The skirt is connected to the swash plate. A restrictor is provided on the skirt to prevent the piston from rotating in the cylinder bore. The restrictor has a pair of arched surfaces slidably contacting an inner surface of the housing and a recessed surface located between the arched surfaces and free from contact with the inner surface. The recessed surface defines a gap for allowing passage of the oil between the recessed surface and the inner surface. The gap leads the oil in the crank chamber toward the shoes when the piston moves from a top dead center position to a bottom dead center position.

Piston for compressors

A variable displacement compressor includes an inclining swash plate connected to a drive shaft. A rotor rotates integrally with the drive shaft. A guiding mechanism is provided between the swash plate and the rotor to guide the inclination of tho swash plate between a minimum inclination position and a maximum inclination position and thus change the stroke of the piston. An abutment is provided to restrict the inclination of the swash plate. In another embodiment, a cap included in the guiding mechanism determines the maximum inclination position of the swash plate. In one embodiment, the maximum inclination position is determined by the length of a spring arranged between the swash plate and the rotor. In another embodiment, a spacer is arranged between the swash plate and the rotor. The thickness of the spacer determines the maximum inclination position. The maximum displacement of the compressor can be changed by changing only one part.
