In the case when password data (PW) added to a TV broadcasting signal and password data (PW) transmitted from an Internet connection section () have a predetermined correlation with each other, the display section () is allowed to display the corresponding contents normally. An illuminance sensor detects an illuminance value for an environment in which a display device is placed and provides the illuminance value to a controller. The controller determines whether to cause the display device to make a transition to a power saving mode or not in accordance with the illuminance value inputted thereto.
