A polyphenylene ether resin composition which comprises: (A) from 30 to 95% by weight of a modified polyphenylene ether resin entirely or partially modified with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof; (B) from 2 to 60% by weight of at least one of a polystyrene and a rubber-modified polystyrene; and (C) from 3 to 40% by weight of a styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer having an acrylonitrile ingredient content of from not less than 7% by weight to less than 11% by weight. The resin composition optionally contains (D) from 1 to 30 parts by weight of a phosphoric acid ester compound; and (E) from 1 to 100 parts by weight of an inorganic filler, each per 100 parts by weight of the total amount of said components (A), (B) and (C). Also disclosed is a molded article prepared from the resin composition.

A thermoplastic resin composition substantially constituted of (A) 25 to 70% by weight of a polyamide, (B) 25 to 70% by weight of a polyphenylene ether and (C) 2 to 25% by weight of a block copolymer having at least one polymer block mainly comprised of a vinyl aromatic compound and at least one polymer block mainly comprised of a conjugated diene compound having the content of the vinyl aromatic compound in the range of 25 to 85% by weight; wherein the polyamide forms a continuous phase, and, in the continuous phase, the polyphenylene ether is dispersed to form a dispersed phase having an average particle diameter ranging from 0.5 to 10 .mu.m, and further, substantially all of the block copolymer is micro-dispersed in the dispersed phase of the polyphenylene ether. The composition is widely used as outerplate materials or wheel caps of automobiles, as electrical or electronical parts, especially the various connectors which are used in automobiles, etc.

A heating method and heating apparatus for uniformly or substantially uniformly heating a predetermined portion of main and branch pipes including a welded joint therebetween of a main-and-branch-pipe assembly, thereby relieving the residual stress in the welded joint between the main and branch pipes. The defects and problems encountered in the conventional residual-stress-relief treatment processes can be substantially overcome such as complication in winding fabrication at the branch pipe which results in bad control of temperature; a mock-up test being needed for fabrication of an inductor; and existence of a non-heated zone resulting in unbalance of the stresses so that the effects of the residual stress-relief treatment are reduced.

Induction heating method and apparatus for relieving residual stress in

A heating method and apparatus for effecting the residual-stress-relief treatment of a welded joint in a pipe line. A welded joint between main pipes, between a main pipe and a branch pipe, between a main pipe and a pipe base or between a branch pipe and a pipe seat and a portion adjacent to the welded point are uniformly or substantially uniformly heated by an inductor which can be varied into configurations according to the performance of the welded joint. The problems encountered in the conventional residual-stress-relief treatment can be substantially overcome.

A welding machine is used to heat the outer surface of a butt welded joint of pipe sections such that the weld heat input condition q/t.sup.2 (where q: heat input and t: the thickness of the wall of a pipe) is higher than approximately 0.01 and the relative heat transfer coefficient ht/.lambda. (where h: the heat transfer coefficient between a coolant and the inner surface of a pipe and .lambda.: the thermal conductivity of a pipe) is higher than approximately 2, whereby the residual stresses at the inner surface of the weld can be relieved by utilizing the temperature difference between the outer and inner surfaces of the pipe.

Method for relieving residual stresses by controlling weld heat input

The outer surface of a butt-welded joint is build-up welded such that a ratio h/t is higher than approximate 0.2 and a ratio L/.sqroot.Rt is higher than approximate 1, where h denotes height of a build-up welded portion; t, wall thickness of a pipe; L, width of the build-up welded portion; and R, radius of the pipe. As a result, the residual stresses in the build-up welded portion counterbalances the residual stresses in the welded joint, whereby the residual stresses at the inner surface of the welded joint can be relieved.
