A rocker arm is tilted by a cam so as to open and close a valve provided on a cylinder head. This arm comprises a pair of opposing wall portions which are made by folding a flat plate so that they oppose substantially in parallel and cylindrical expanding portions which are formed at tilting fulcrum shaft mounting portions located in a center of the opposing wall portions in the length direction thereof, the expanding portions being expanded in the direction of the tilting fulcrum shaft. The cylindrical expanding portions which are thicker than the opposing wall portions receive a load accompanied by the tilting motion so as to decrease bearing stress applied to the opposing wall portions.

Rocker arm

An rocker arm is tilted by a cam so as to open and close a valve provided on a cylinder head. This arm comprises a pair of opposing wall portions which are made by folding a flat plate so that they oppose substantially in parallel and cylindrical expanding portions which are formed at tilting fulcrum shaft mounting portions located in a center of the opposing wall portions in the length direction thereof, the expanding portions being expanded in the direction of the tilting fulcrum shaft. A rocker arm with a roller made with a metal plate and utilized in a valve actuating System of an engine is provided. The roller mounting rocker arm includes a rocker arm body (11) having a pair of side walls (11c) and a connecting portion 12 for connecting the side walls (11c), a roller (7) mounted between the side walls (11c), a pivot engageable recess (12a) formed on the connecting portion by drawing, and a valve stem receiving portion (14) formed at the other end of the side walls (11c). This roller mounting rocker arm has a high rigidity and is suitable for mass-production, and low cost is realized.

Method for manufacturing a rocker arm with a roller

A rocker arm with a roller made with a metal plate and utilized in a valve actuating system of an engine is provided. The roller mounting rocker arm includes a rocker arm body (11) having a pair of side walls (11c) and a connecting portion 12 for connecting the side walls (11c), a roller (7) mounted between the side walls (11c), a pivot engageable recess (12a) formed on the connecting portion by drawing, and a valve stem receiving portion (14) formed at the other end of the side walls (11c). This roller mounting rocker arm has a high rigidity and is suitable for mass-production, and low cost is realized.

Rocker arm with roller and a method for manufacturing the same

A rocker arm formed by pressing includes: a rocker arm body substantially U-shaped in section which is made of a plate material; and a roller rotatably supported between the side walls of the rocker arm body substantially at the middle, the rocker arm body having a semi-spherical pivot engaging portion at one end, and a valve engaging portion at the other end. In the rocker arm, each of the side walls has a pivot-side portion beside said pivot engaging portion which is smaller in wall thickness than the remaining.

A combined radial and thrust bearing comprising: a radial rolling bearing including an outer ring provided with a large-diameter cylindrical portion the inner peripheral surface of which constitutes a raceway of rollers, a small-diameter cylindrical portion which extends from one end of the large-diameter cylindrical portion for carrying a thrust rolling bearing and which has a smaller diameter than the large-diameter cylindrical portion and a plurality of projections for preventing the thrust rolling bearing which is provided on the periphery at the end portion of the small-diameter cylindrical portion from coming off, and a plurality of rollers disposed on the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring and held by a retainer at regular circumferential intervals; and a thrust rolling bearing including axially arranged first race and second race, the first race being composed of an annular plate, a plurality of rollers disposed and held by an annular retainer at regular circumferential intervals and the second race being composed of an outer cylindrical portion and an annular plate portion, wherein the first race and the annular retainer of the thrust rolling bearing are placed over the small-diameter cylindrical portion of the radial rolling bearing, and each of the projections is engaged with the outer periphery of the opening of the retainer so as to prevent the thrust rolling bearing from coming off the radial rolling bearing. Assembly and processing of a combined radial and thrust bearing are facilitated and the performance thereof is increased.

Combined radial and thrust bearing

A valve rotating apparatus of an internal-combustion engine comprises a valve biased in the closing direction by a coil spring, a valve lifter disposed on an engine head in such manner as to be vertically movable together with the valve, a cam formed on a cam shaft for directly driving the valve through the valve lifter, and a thrust rolling bearing retaining the coil spring, the thrust roller bearing comprising an upper washer, a lower washer, and balls held by a cage between the upper and lower washers. The cage is provided between its inner and outer circumferences with a plurality of pockets at regular spatial intervals, a plurality of balls being housing in each pocket; and the inner or outer periphery of each of the upper and lower washers is provided with an axially extending cylindrical portion. The upper washer has the degree of freedom for movement in all directions including X and Y directions, within the same plane. Accordingly, the thrust rolling bearing follows the radial displacement of the coil spring caused by its bending or the like, so that the thrust rolling bearing is moved together with the coil spring, and the intake/exhaust valve can be smoothly rotated. The thrust rolling bearing can also be applied between the valve lifter and a pad disposed thereon.

Valve rotating apparatus of internal-combustion engine

A sealed thrust ball bearing having a plurality of balls rollable between a first race and a second race and elastic seal members sealing the clearance between the inner peripheral portions of the races and the clearance between the outer peripheral portions of the races. The first race has a hollow cylindrical portion on its inner periphery extending toward the second race with an inner elastic seal member fixedly fitted to an outer side thereof. The second race has a hollow cylindrical portion on its outer periphery extending toward the first race with an outer elastic seal member fixedly fitted to an inner side thereof. The inner elastic seal member has a lip in intimate contact with the inner peripheral portion of the second race. The outer elastic seal member has a lip supporting the axially outer face of the outer peripheral portion of the first race in intimate contact with the face.
