An apparatus develops an electrostatic latent image on a charge-retentive surface. A donor roll is selectably rotatable in a process direction and in a reverse direction relative to the process direction. A toner mover loads toner particles onto a portion of the surface of the donor roll. A metering blade is disposed downstream of the toner mover in the process direction. A seal is disposed upstream of the toner mover in the process direction, and is adapted to remove at least approximately half of the undeveloped toner from the donor roll.

Single-component electrophotographic development system

An image forming apparatus which comprises a laser light source, a light beam scanning unit which scans an image receiving member with a light beam, and an optical system for forming a spot of the light beam, which has a predetermined diameter. The light beam is modulated by a pulse modulation unit based on the density data of an image. The size of picture elements formed on the image receiving member is a function of parameters of the laser scanning unit and the pulse modulation unit, and the spot size is designed at least 1.7 times as large as the corresponding size of picture elements.

Image-forming apparatus

An optical writing apparatus whereby non-light-emitting portions that might exist between adjacent light-emitting elements arranged in parallel rows can be substantially eliminated either in the direction of the rows or in the direction perpendicular to the row direction. In addition, dotted latent electrostatic images can be formed in such a way that adjacent dots partially overlap with each other, thus contributing to improved image quality and resolution. Further, because light-emitting elements are connected to a common anode electrode, a reduced number of electronic devices is required to drive the elements.

Latent electrostatic image optical writing apparatus

A developing system for an electrostatic image reproduction machine comprising a mono-component developer having toner particles of selected diameters dispersed therein; container for holding the developer; a developer sleeve for receiving a quantity of the developer from the container; a restriction member for forming a thin layer of the developer on the sleeve; a device for impacting an electric charge to the developer layer; and a latent image retainer for selectively receiving the electrically charged layer for forming a visible image. The developer satisfies the expression d.sub.75 /d.sub.25 .ltoreq.d.sub.50 /40+1.2 where d.sub.25, d.sub.50 and d.sub.75 represent diameters of toner particles when the percentage by volume or by weight of toner particles of that diameter as compared to the total volume or weight of the developer is 25%, 50% and 75%, respectively. A one-component developing apparatus includes a developer carrier disposed in opposition to an electrostatic latent image receiving member, and a toner amount restricting member pressed so as to be in contact with the developer carrier. Wherein the toner amount restricting member includes a support member nade of a plate spring having tensile strength not smaller than 15 kgf/mm.sup.2 and yield strength not smaller than 10 kgf/mm.sup.2, and a soft elastic member disposed on the support member at a portion thereof to be pressed into contact with the developer carrier, the soft elastic member being attached on the support member so as to project from a forward end of the support member, whereby a thin layer of developer is formed on the developer carrier by the toner amount restricting member and charged so that the thin layer of toner is made adhere on an electrostatic latent image to make the electrostatic latent image visible.

One-component developing apparatus with improved toner layer regulating

A fluorescent printer head capable of rendering luminance of dot-like anodes along its main scanning direction uniform and stable to improve quality of printing in an optical printer. The fluorescent printer head includes dot-like anodes constituting a luminous area, control electrodes having apertures formed at positions corresponding to the dot-like anodes, and at least one filamentary cathode stretched above the control electrode extending along the middle portion of the luminous area.

Apparatus for developing a latent image on a photo-sensitive drum which apparatus uses as a developing agent microcapsule toner magnetic particles wherein regulation member contacts the surface of developing agent carrier, or sleeve, under pressure for regulating the thickness of a uniform thin layer of the particles deposited on the sleeve and the contact pressure of the regulation member on the sleeve is not more than 20 g/cm. A timed electrode drive circuit activates the arrays sequentially, and grid mask elements extending transversely across the row-arrays control emission from the individual light emission elements in an activated array, to minimize the number of drive circuit switching elements. A series-to-parallel signal conversion and storage circuit preprocesses the recording signal of the image to be printed.

Optical write head

A developing method comprising disposing an electrostatic latent image holding body and a development electrode carrying a toner layer opposite to each other with a gap therebetween and transferring the toner from the development electrode to the electrostatic latent image holding body across the gap to develop the electrostatic latent image. A toner carrying layer of a resistive material having the specific resistance of 10.sup.6 to 10.sup.12 .OMEGA..cm is formed over the development electrode opposite to the electrostatic latent image holding body and a fringing field is formed in part of the electrostatic latent image holding body corresponding to the latent image formed over the electrostatic latent image holding body by applying a high-frequency alternating electric field to the development electrode and thereby causing the toner adhere to the electrostatic latent image holding body in the form of the electrostatic latent image.

Electrostatic latent image developing method

A device for developing an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive layer. The developing device comprises a doner roll for supporting a uniform layer of single-component developing material adjacent to the photoconductive layer. The doner roll is disposed as to create a space gap between the photoconductive layer and the doner roll. The doner roll is made of semiconductive material having a specific resistance ranging from 10.sup.6 to 10.sup.12 .OMEGA.cm. An electrical bias potential is applied across the gap, thereby establishing a field for transferring the developing material from the doner roll to the photoconductive layer.
