A package and a method are disclosed for preserving freshness of produce using a corrugated fiberboard composed of an outer liner having a carbon dioxide permeability coefficient Pco.sub.2 of greater than 5.times.10.sup.-10 cm.sup.3 (STP)cm/cm.sup.2 .multidot.s.multidot.cmHg at a temperature of 27.degree. C.; a corrugating medium; and an inner liner having a water-vapor transmission rate of less than 100 g/m.sup.2 .multidot.day at a temperature of 27.degree. C. The end parts of the corrugated fiber board which are exposed to an outer surface of the package are substantially sealed with a seal tape. A wrapping paper covered at least on one surface thereof with a resin layer which contains therein less than 0.917 g/cm.sup.3 density of a copolymer of ethylene and .alpha.-olefin having a carbon number of 3 to 12, having a carbon dioxide permeability coefficient of greater than 8.times.10.sup.-10 cm.sup.3 (STP)cm/cm.sup.2 .multidot.s.multidot.cmHg, a permeability coefficient ratio Pco.sub.2 /Po.sub.2 of greater than 3.5 and a water-vapor transmission coefficient of less than 80.times.10.sup.-9 cm.sup.3 (STP)cm/cm.sup.2 .multidot.s.multidot.cmHg is also disclosed. With the use of the package or wrapping paper, produce can fall in a dormant condition, and the freshness thereof can be preserved so that the storage period therefor can be prolonged.

The present invention provides a strong heat seal to a thermoplastic polyester container which can withstand hot water treatment such as retorting, and to a heat sealed container. A heat-sealable closure is also provided. It is composed of a laminate consisting of a heat-seal layer comprising as a main component a copolymerized polyester resin having a softening temperature of 120.degree. C. and a glass-transition temperature of 30.degree. to 85.degree. C., a metal substrate, and an epoxy-phenol resin primer layer interposed between them. Preferably, the container has a heat seal portion composed of a thermoplastic polyester having a fusion temperature in the crystalline state of at least 200.degree. C. This polyester portion is oriented and crystallized or heat-crystallized.

The laminate for flexible packaging is obtained by joining a plurality of flexible blanks via layers of an adhesive agent, wherein the layers of said adhesive agent are layers of an isocyanate-terminated polyurethane type hot-melt resin that is crosslinked with the moisture, the residual amount of an organic solvent in said laminate is 10 .mu.g/m.sup.2 or smaller per a unit inner surface, the peeling strength at 25.degree. C. is 250 g/15 mm of width or greater, and a peeling strength retentivity at 80.degree. C. is 30% or greater of the peeling strength at 25.degree. C.

A metal vessel has a metal bottomed cup-shaped lower member and a metal cup-shaped upper member, the upper and lower members being bonded together by a circumferential side seam. The upper member has a pouring mouth having a small diameter in the central portion thereof. The metal vessel is formed by lap-bonding the circumferential open ends of both the upper and lower members. The side wall of the upper member is formed by subjecting a primer-coated tin-plated steel sheet to draw forming at a side wall plastic forming ratio R of from 1.1 to 1.8; the side wall plastic forming ratio R being defined by the following formula: ##EQU1## wherein W stands for the weight (g) of the blank of the upper member, t stands for the thickness (cm) of the blank of the upper member at the side wall, .rho. stands for the density (g/cm.sup.3) of the blank of the upper member, D.sub.0 stands for the inner diameter (cm) of pouring mouth of the upper member, and D.sub.1 stands for the average inner diameter (cm) of the side wall. In the circumferential bonded portion, the side wall of the lower member is bonded to the side wall of the upper member through an organic adhesive interposed between a primer coating applied to the side wall of the lower member and a primer coating applied to the side wall of the upper member. The bonding strength and resistance to leakage of the lap-bonded circumferential side seam are improved.

Disclosed is a metal vessel comprising upper and lower members, each of which consists of a seamless molded metal cup having a protecting resin cover layer, the open end portions of the upper and lower members being lap-bonded to each other through an adhesive to form a circumferential side seam, said metal vessel being characterized in that the open end portion defining the inner side of the circumferential side seam has a layer of a thermoplastic resin adhesive tape heat-bonded along the entire circumference of said end portion while wrapping the end edge and adjoining inner and outer side faces therein, a layer located on the outer side face of the adhesive tape is extended along the lap-bonded portion, and the adhesive layer present in the lap-bonded portion satisfies the following requirement: ##EQU1## wherein S1 stands for the sectional area (mm.sup.2) of the adhesive layer present in the lap-bonded portion, lo stands for the width (mm) of the lap-bonded portion, and t.sub.o stands for the thickness (mm) of the adhesive tape present on the inner side of the inner open end portion.

An easily openable closure adapted to be fixed to a can body by seaming. The closure comprises a closure body of a rigid metallic material, a score formed therein reaching halfways in the thickness direction of the metallic closure body for defining a portion to be opened, and an opening tab provided near a score shearing starting point through a bonding support. The bonding support is comprised of a polyamide-type adhesive containing 6.1 to 15.0 main-chain carbon atoms on an average per amide group and having a crystallinity of 15 to 40% and a dynamic modulus, determined at a temperature of 25.degree. C. and a relative humidity of not more than 30%, of 0.8.times.10.sup.10 to 3.3.times.10 .sup.10 dynes/cm.sup.2.

A score line defining a portion to be opened is formed on a chromated surface treated steel plate coated with an epoxy type primer so that the score line is cut to the middle of the steel plate in the thickness direction thereof, and an opening tab is bonded and secured to the portion to be opened of the steel plate through a bonding fulcrum composed of a thermoplastic adhesive consisting of amide recurring units and/or ester recurring units so that the push-tearing top end of the opening tab is located on the score line.
